Karen Brooks

Karen Renee Brooks was born on January 29, 1953 in Chicago, Illinois and departed this life on August 8, 2024. 

Karen was the daughter of the late Alice Spears. She was also predeceased by her nephew Juan L. Brooks and great niece Alexis O. Brooks. 

Karen was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She enjoyed caring for children, cooking, movies, television and spending time with family. 

After moving to Michigan, Karen was a graduate of Baldwin High School and later a proud graduate of Ferris State University. 

She was a dedicated worker for the State of Michigan for 30+ years until her retirement in 2008. 

Having accepted Christ early in life, Karen was an active member of First Baptist Church of Idlewild. She was later a member of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Lansing, MI. While at Pilgrim Rest Baptist she was always helpful and loving to many babies/families in the church and delighted in being godmother to many children. 

Karen is survived by two daughters, Kiwana N. Quinn (George) of Galloway, OH, and Kimyana McCowan of Lockbourne, OH, one sister Claudia Taylor (Dr. Bayard) of Richmond, VA, one brother Sylvester Brooks of Denver, CO, four grandsons Louis Jones and Cameron Howell of Galloway, OH, Juan Cox and DaVonn Cox of Lockbourne, OH, one granddaughter Kierra Howell of Galloway, OH. She also leaves behind two nieces, Alecia Brooks and Victoria Brooks of Richmond VA, one special brother Alvin Charles Green (Cea) of Kalamazoo, MI and one special daughter Jackie (Wes) Clay of Lansing, MI. She also leaves behind great nieces, great-great nieces and a great-great nephew.
