Katherine Sarah Genovese

Mother Katherine Sarah Genovese was born on August 5, 1941, to the late William Coleman and late Estella Rucker. She was one of nine siblings. Katherine attended and graduated from Stonewall Jackson High School in the Charleston public school system in Charleston, West Virginia. She married the late Robert J. Genovese, Sr. and moved to New York, as he served in the United States Army and then in the USAF.

After brief stays in Chicago, Illinois and New York City, New York, she planted roots in Columbus, Ohio. She was employed by the State of Ohio, as a Data Entry Clerk and Keypunch Operator. She used the resources of this data entry job to provide for her community during the holiday seasons.

She loved crossword puzzles, paintings, word search puzzles, and string art. She received the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior and Lord, and served the Lord with gladness. She believed in the Word and raised her children in the knowledge and fear of the Lord. She was a loving and caring individual. She was an encourager, a supporter and a prayer warrior. Katherine Genovese’s life touched so many individuals and she witnessed to many people.

She was a birth mother of three, Robert (LaSonya) Genovese, Jr., Toia (Frank, Jr.) Brown and Anthony (Tamara) Genovese, however, she was a mother to many. She was a church mother and the neighborhood mother to all that knew her and she was loved by all.

She is survived by siblings, James (Sylvia) Coleman of Columbus, OH, Alice (James) Straughter of Charleston, W VA and Everette Thomas of Tuscan, AZ; grandchildren, great- grandchildren, nieces, nephews, many other relatives and a great host of friends, that are far too many to name.
She was predeceased, along with her parents and husband, by siblings, William (Virginia) Whaley, Rosetta (Bill) Smith, Robert (Virginia) Whaley, Willie “Junebug” Whaley, Alice Jumper, Sylvanna Jumper; and a great-granddaughter, Amirah Leanna Truss.

After a prolonged illness, she continued to fight and endured many battles. She did her job, fought her fight, and finished her course. On November 12th, 2022, she laid down and fell asleep and the Lord called her home. She will be missed by all who knew her. May her testimony and love of Jesus Christ live in our hearts forever.
