Lamont K. Turner

Lamont Kristian Turner was born on November 17, 1992 to his parents James and Andrea Turner in Columbus, Ohio. He was a very intelligent young man, an inquisitive as well as a critical thinker, a worldwide sought-after ESL teacher, chess player, star track and field runner and family impressionist. As a child he loved to ride his jeep and dog Saint. People always told his mother Andrea that he could be the next Gerber Baby or model.

As he grew up his parents began to learn that Lamont was not your average child. He was kicked out of several schools starting with City Kids Day Care, Advent Day Care, and Saint Thomas Catholic School because he was a very smart, determined and strong-willed child. His father realized he needed a challenge and enrolled him in Liberty Christian Academy, East where he was a frequent visitor to the principal’s office. There he was finally able to grow and accomplish many things as a kid. He immediately started earning straight A’s and there was no slowing him down.

Throughout Lamont’s life he achieved many accomplishments. Most of them are listed below but here are just a few to mention. He became a writer and author of the book “Mante” which means “Courage” finished in 2019. He graduated from Walnut Ridge High School with honors in 2011. He was on the Dean’s List at OSU and National Honor Society. When he was in the Salesian Boys and Girls Club Summer School Program, he placed 42nd in class Plaque Rank in Louisville, Kentucky in 2006. However, his mother’s favorite memory of him and best accomplishment in life was the day he graduated and walked across the stage of The Ohio State University on “Mother’s Day” to receive his Bachelors of Arts Degree. At that time, it was the largest graduating class for OSU. (over 11,000 graduates)

Lamont loved poetry and short stories. He was a gifted speaker and loved the word of God. His sister Shawana remembers him playing with her as a child. They used to play Naruto and create the characters from scratch using anything they could find. (printer paper, Uno cards, etc.) She’s going to miss him dearly but recognizes that he set a high bar to achieve. She is not that far behind him but is close on his tail. In Shawana’s first year of college, Lamont wrote her a 9-page letter on what to expect and how to survive the first couple of years of college. He was a very sweet and loving brother and she’s going to miss him very much.

James the father of Lamont is going to miss him dearly as well. He’s going to miss his courage and determination to be the best. He was a neat freak like his mother. Everything in his room had its place. He even organized his father’s semi-truck and paperwork while out on the road working with his father. His ability to face obstacles no matter how hard they were on his own was truly amazing.
Lamont went abroad to teach in Thailand in 2018 where his students called him Teacher Lam. He loved martial arts (especially the weapons). Even while working abroad, he continued to practice martial arts regularly. When he was 3 years old, he went to Japan and was hoping to return one day. Lamont has always been very soft-spoken his mother said and would not hurt a fly.
Lamont was a very good speaker and writer. While still in high school, he was a public speaker at Dr. Ann Hill’s Retirement Party. She was like a second Mom to him. After he spoke, he left everyone in tears.

James and Andrea loved to watch him run track, however, they recognized his special gift was writing. He knew how to convey words and speak with a mannerism and fluency on a professional level.
Lamont did things his way. Lamont “Pooter” as his grandmother and brother, Nigel would call him was a Gift of Joy! Lamont stayed true to his truths and what he believed to the end. His smile, which could light up a room will surely be missed. We love you Lamont and may you be forever in God’s Hands and Glory.

Lamont is preceded in death by two brothers, Nathaniel and Nigel Turner; maternal grandfather, Keitt E. Jacobs; paternal grandmother, Mary Jenkins; paternal grandfather; James E. Turner, Sr.

He is survived by his parents James and Andrea Turner; siblings, Isaac and Shawana Turner; grandmother, Virginia Jacobs; godmother, Sherrie Moore; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, other relatives and friends. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.
