Lillie Bell (Hampton) Jackson-Kirk

February 6, 1939 — December 23, 2024

Lillie Bell (Hampton) age 85, of Columbus, Ohio, was born February 6, 1939 in Augusta Georgia; the oldest daughter of John and Lizzie Lou Hampton, raised by Aunt Lillie Mae Kendrick. 

She was preceded in death by her loving husbands Howard Andrew Jackson and James Kirk, parents John and Lizzie Hampton, Aunt Lillie Mae Kendrick, brothers Johnnie Simmons, Nathaniel and John “June” Wiley, Robert Hampton, and sister Essie Kemp (Augusta, Ga).

She was a faithful member of The United House of Prayer for All People for nearly 60 years and a devoted member of the Singers of Faith for 53 years. She was treasurer of the choir and volunteered in the church kitchen for 28 years (known as the “fish fry lady” in the community).

She grew up in Urbancrest and attended West High School. Sister Kirk worked many places in her life to support herself and her family, some of which were Deshler—Hilton Hotel (Broad and High), faithful employee of Gene and Terry Hammeroff, Grossman and Sons, and as a supervisor for Professional Maintenance. She retired from Kauffman and Lattimer/ Amerisource pharmaceuticals after 17 years. She loved praise singing, dancing, educating the youth, studying the Bible, John Wayne movies, Disney and Cinderella. She is also the co-author of Lillie Bell’s Recipes for the Soul cookbook, which shares some of her family’s traditional recipes, and she is the Mother of Andrew Bell Performing Arts organization.

She was survived by a loving family of three children and in-laws and one adopted son, Howard (Karen) Jackson, Larry (Monica) Jackson, Michelle (Chris) Hartway, and Demetrius (Mary) Elmore, Special daughter, and granddaughter, Joyce Farris, Tammy (Gary) Chapman of Columbus, OH. Two sisters, Nellie Bynum, and Rosetta Dukes, nine grandchildren, Jermane (Amber) Jackson, Dishawn (Deidre) Jackson, Nicole Jackson, Calvin Royal III., Larry Jackson Jr., Dejuan (Pam) Jackson, Julien Jackson, Sha-Tonya Kornegay, Christopher Jr., Michael Hartway, Sydney Hairston and Jordan Hartway. Fifteen great-grandchildren, Jermane Jr, Iyana, Olivia, Daijoure, Dorian, LaRae, LaNiya, Larry Khordel, Robert, Collins, Jaylen, Jordynn, Jayden, Princeton, and Juelz, attending nieces, nephews, Kathy (Morris) Watkins, Nathaniel (Jesse) Simmons (Ga), Dorothy Smiley-Gibson and William Smiley (Ga), Deloris Jennings, Bryant (Marla) Jones, Michael (Wanda) Neal, and Secundra (Daniel) Duut, Anthony, and A.J. Johnson, Chris Zawadniak and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
