Maerine Cupe, “Rine” Cupe, was born June 7, 1939, to the late Elder W. C. Cupe, Founder and Pastor Emeritus of Greater Liberty Temple COGIC and the late beloved First Lady Earrie L. Cupe.
Rine graduated from Central High School of Columbus, Ohio. She obtained a bachelor’s degree from Franklin University. Rine worked for the Federal Government for many years before retiring as a Management Analyst. Rine enjoyed traveling and fulfilled part of her desire to travel by going on a number of cruises. She also loved to take her mother to church conventions held all over the country. Rine loved children and had many godchildren. She was affectionately known as “Nana” to her godchildren. Rine also loved to laugh and could find humor in almost any situation.
After Rine accepted Christ, she worked and supported the church that God led her parents to build, Greater Liberty Temple COGIC (later changed to Greater Liberty Temple church under Pastor Ira Daniels). Rine graduated from the Greater Liberty Temple COGIC Witnessing Seminar. She also worked with the children. Rine participated in Bible Study, Sunday School and other church ministries. Rine also served on the church board and other administrative church committees. Much later in life, Rine became a devoted caregiver to her mother. After her mother made her heavenly transition, she eventually became a caregiver to her father. She gave her father an extraordinary grand celebration for his 100th birthday. She cared for him until he also made his heavenly transition.
When Rine was able to do so, she blessed her family and others out of the kindness of her heart. Over time, Rine became ill. When she was unable to attend church, she would listen to church on YouTube in her home. One of her favorite songs was, “Stand” by Donnie McClurkin. On January 20, 2025, Rine departed from her earthly journey and transitioned to her eternal home. Rine is proceeded in death by her beloved parents, Elder W. C. Cupe, Founder and Pastor Emeritus of Greater Liberty Temple COGIC, First Lady Earrie L. Cupe, grandparents, Lazarus and Sara Jane Cupe, aunts, uncles and cousins. She is survived by a host of cousins, godchildren, spiritual sisters, spiritual brothers and friends.
