Marcus Andre Mathis

Marcus Mathis was born in Macon, GA to the union of George Mathis Jr., and Dorothy Marcus Mathis.

He was the third of five children.  He transitioned to his new life on July 3, At an early age Marcus relocated to Columbus, Ohio with his family. While attending Columbus Public Schools, Marcus became an excellent scholar.  His passion for sports was outstanding especially in football.  Marcus graduated from Marion Franklin High School before furthering his education at Franklin University. 

Marcus was a mentor to all his nephews, nieces, and any and all young people who came in contact with him. Marcus never met a stranger. His personality was endearing and welcoming. 

Marcus joined the staff at Riverside Hospital in 1975 where he met his wife, Desiree. He also worked at Wonder Bread, and his final job with COTA.

Marcus leaves to cherish his memory, wife Desiree; daughters, Shelley (Craig) Thomas, and Angel; parents, George and Dorothy Mathis; grandchildren, Cameron, Zahrya, and Corey Thomas; brother, George Mathis III; aunts, uncles, six sister in laws, one brother in law, “adopted children”- Gittuan Walters and Dexter Ford, and a host of nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his sister, Stacey; and brothers, Donahue, and Daniel.

Visitation 5:00pm and Funeral 6:00pm Sunday July 8, 2018 at MARLAN J. GARY FUNERAL HOME, THE CHAPEL OF PEACE EAST 5456 E. Livingston Ave.

Interment at Macon Memorial Cemetery.
