Dean Coleman, age 95, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, an cherished member of the Columbus, Oh community, departed this life to be with the Lord on July 27, 2024 at the Sanctuary at Tuttle Crossing, Dublin, OH. She passed peacefully surrounded by family, having had a life richly lived in devotion and service to her fellow man.

Margaret was born in Chattanooga, TN on July 23, 1929, one of ten children born to the late Christopher P. and Eva I. Coleman. "Sis" graduated Austin HS in 1946, received her BS from Knoxville College in 1955, earned her MSSW in 1965, University of Tennessee; graduated University of Toledo Doctorial Program; and A.P. Management -Administration, Education- Training Program. Her professional accomplishments include a position and retirement as Assistant Dean, Ohio State University College of Social Work, Columbus, OH. Other positions include Counselor to Black Students an Director of Evening Studies, Wittenberg University, Springfield, OH; Deputy Director, Columbus Urban League. Her memberships include National Association of Social Workers (NASW); National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa and Alpha Kappa Sorority (AKA). She was a member of the Academy of Certified Social Workers as well as a Licensed Certified Social Worker. Her academic and professional accomplishments are listed in the "Who's Who Among Human Service Proffessionals, 1986-1987".

Margaret was preceded in death by her father and mother; brothers, John O. Coleman Christopher "Rat" Coleman Jr., and Marvin "Bo" Coleman; sisters, Elizabeth Coleman, Dorothy "Dot" E. Walker, Jordan Vivian Davis, Annie M. Loggans, and Lillian G. Coleman; husband from a previous marriage, William A. Hardin, Sr.

Margaret is survived by her husband, Charles Cowherd; son, William A. Hardin Jr. (OK); grandson, Aaron C. Hardin (Felicia Duffin, Partner); granddaughter, Angela M. Fields (Brian); great grandson, Maddox A. Fields; granddaughters, Graysyn B. Fields and Alaina E. Hardin; sister, Sarah F. Branner (Clinton); a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and cherished friends.


Mom was a beacon of light and encouragement to her family, extended family, and her community; touching lives through her love, compassion, and service.

She will always be loved, fondly remembered, and sorely missed.
