Margie Marie Fields

June 7, 1939 — June 6, 2024

Columbus

Margie Marie Lamar was born in Augusta, Georgia, on June 7, 1939, and entered eternal rest on Thursday, June 6, 2024. She was an exceptional woman of strong faith who spoke life into everyone, made sure they were fed, gave them a good laugh, and even her last if needed.  She was strong, independent, and full of energy. Her unconditional love, forgiveness, grace, and kindness warmed the hearts of those around her. She was talkative, friendly, quick-witted, and had the most infectious personality, which attracted folks from all walks of life. She never met a stranger. While her family was everything to her, she shared her love with the world.

Margie attended and graduated from Lucy Craft Laney High School. At the age of 18, she married the love of her life, Everett Fields.  After moving to Columbus, Ohio, Margie and Everett brought four beautiful children into the world.

Margie attended Mt. Carmel Baptist Church on Stambaugh, where she proudly served as choir director. From there, Margie transferred her membership to Triedstone Missionary Baptist Church on E. 3rd Avenue, where she was active in many church organizations and functions, for over 50 years. Margie was employed at Mercy Hospital as a supervisor of Housekeeping. Then, she became a nurse’s aide at First Community Village.

Margie is predeceased by her parents, Louis Lamar, Sr., and Josephine Butler; her beloved husband, Everett S. Fields; her son, Curtis “Lynn” Fields; two brothers, Louis Lamar and Jerry Lamar; and two sisters, Rosa Lee Gilliam and Carrie Louise Kates. Margie leaves to cherish her memory a son, Everett (Alyssia) Fields; daughters, JoAnne (Valance) Smith and Angela M. Fields; sister, Bertha Boyce; grandchildren, Moncheria Fields, Kela (Terrell) Hisle, Everett Fields III, Tamara Fields, Dountae Fields, Rashad Fields, Thomas Fields, Ahmaad (Nina) Fields, Jasmine Fields, Valance (Keela) Smith, Jr., Isaiah Fields, Dominique Banks; 33 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; and a host of other relatives and friends.
