Obituary: Mary Elizabeth Robinson (September 23, 1941 – October 14, 2023)
Mary Elizabeth Robinson, affectionately known as “Worry,” passed away peacefully on October 14, 2023, in Columbus Ohio. Born on September 23, 1941, in Atlanta, Georgia, Mary’s life was a testament to faith, wisdom, and kindness.
At the age of fourteen, Mary relocated to Chicago, where her uncle, Elmer Bryant, continued raising her. She attended DuSable High School, where she excelled academically and embraced her love for learning. She graduated in 1959. Mary’s commitment to education and hard work laid the foundation for a life dedicated to growth, understanding and supporting her family and friends.
It was during her teenage years that Mary crossed paths with Cecil Robinson Sr. (deceased) and formed a teenage crush. While Cecil Robinson Sr. joined the marines, Mary married Milton Alexander 1960. This union produced two children Wonzer Alexander (deceased) and Tywanna Alexander. In 1961, Cecil Sr. returned home from the marines, they would marry in 1962. Their union was one of unwavering love and support, marked by shared values and a deep emotional connection. Mary’s devout Christian faith was the cornerstone of her life, guiding her actions and shaping her character. Cecil Robinson Jr. and Brandon Robinson were produced from this union.
Throughout her life, Mary was recognized for her wisdom, thoughtful insight, and kind words. She possessed a remarkable ability to provide comfort and guidance to those in need, offering solace and encouragement to friends, family, and even strangers. Her home was open to all family that was in need. Her gentle spirit and compassion left an indelible impact on all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Mary is survived by her children Tywanna, Cecil Jr. (Donna), and Brandon, a host of grandchildren (Leila, Micheal, Daryl, Chris, Shannon, Cecilia, Ciana, Cecil III, Braylon, Ashley), a host of great grandchildren, and a wide circle of relatives and friends. Her warm smile, infectious comical candor, and genuine concern for others will be dearly missed.
As we bid farewell to Mary, let us remember her as someone who brought light into the world, always offering a listening ear, a compassionate heart, and a word of encouragement. May her soul rest in eternal peace, and may her memory live on in the hearts of those she touched.
“Her faith was her compass, her wisdom a guiding light. In our hearts, her love will forever shine bright.”
