Mary M. Patterson 83, of Columbus, Ohio entered into eternal rest on January 24, 2024.

Mary, affectionately known as ‘Mag’ to many, was born January 21, 1941, to the late Stoney Jones and Eva J. Johnson, in McDowell County, West Virginia. Mary graduated from Elkhorn High School in 1959. After graduation, she furthered her education by taking business courses and earning various Certifications. Mary started her career in public service as a Case Worker, with the Department of Human Services in Welch, West Virginia. In 1971 she relocated to Columbus, Ohio while continuing her career in public service. Mary retired after 27 years of service with the State of Ohio – OBES/JFS
Unemployment Division. Mary also worked as a tax preparer in her spare time. Mary loved to read, cook, shop, and spend time with family and friends. One of her greatest joys was hosting holidays dinners and cookouts.

Mary devoted her life to serving God and was a faithful member of Emmanuel Tabernacle Baptist Church of Apostolic Faith. She was the National Church Mother and served on the Trustee and Deaconess Boards. For many years, she was the President of the Women’s Auxiliary Board. Mary was committed to serving God and others.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Stoney Jones and Eva J. Johnson; two brothers, Earl and Clinton Jones; sister, Lee Anna Toler; brothers-in-law, James and Dwight Patterson; stepdaughters, Rita Greene, Phyllis Constant; nieces, Revenda “Wanda” (Jones) Taylor and Phyllis (Toler) Hatcher.

Mary was a faithful friend and loved her family unconditionally. She leaves to cherish her memory and legacy, loving spouse of fifty plus years, Robert L. Patterson Sr.; sister, Barbara J. Brown; sisters-in-law, Sherri E. Jackson and Zena (Tim) Ferguson; children, Deborah (Thad) Stockton, Clintonia M. Constant, Jeffrey D. (DeSandra) Constant, Stanley A. Constant, Shelia V. (Manuel) Lopez, Lenora E. Patterson, Tammy S. (Chris) Grant, Robert L. Patterson Jr. Darrell (Meike) Patterson, over 50 grandchildren, and great-grandchildren combined; special nephews and nieces, Gaylord, Tony, John/”Rip”, Lamontay, Chequita “Quata”, Angela, Lavette, Anita, Pequita “Pep”, Hope; and a host of extended family and friends including Elinora Justice and Ginnette Andrews. She informally adopted, and was adopted, by others becoming the mother and grandmother to many from the neighborhood, church, and work.

Visitation 10:00 AM and Funeral Service 11:00 AM Friday, February 2, 2024 at Emmanuel Tabernacle Baptist Church Apostolic Faith, 331 N Garfield Ave. Interment at Eastlawn Cemetery.
