Mary Ellen Scott

Mary Ellen Scott was born June 15, 1933 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Charles and Betha Scott. Educated in the Columbus Public School System graduating from Central High School in 1951. Mary met no strangers and showed her love and quick wit to all that met her. She was affectionately known as “Mary Ellen”, “Mama Mary”, and “Diva” to her family and friends.

Mary was a very spiritual woman, reading the Bible daily and receiving the word of God from daily morning preachers on television. She encouraged all to learn about and love the Lord.

Mary retired from Ohio Bell after 29 dedicated years of service with 8 of years having perfect attendance. After retiring, she became a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. She also found joy after retiring shopping and watching her favorite college team, Ohio State Buckeyes play football and basketball. She loved watching LeBron James play, being her favorite pro player. Mary also enjoyed watching the Cleveland Browns and doing crossword puzzles. Her most cherished moments were talking to and spending time with family.

Mary was called to be with her Lord and Savior on May 6, 2022. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Bertha Scott; sisters, Stella Johnson and Opal Woodfork; and brother, Warren G. Scott. She leaves to cherish her memories and celebrate her life, daughter, Shelley Renee’ Scott; daughter-in-law, Adrienne M. Lawson; granddaughter, Sherrika M. Lawson; grandson, DeQuan (Lexis) DeVore; great grandsons, Te’mar Smith, Jamari Lawson, and Nas Brown; great granddaughter, Nasiyah DeVore; nieces, Barbara Herman of Chillicothe, OH, Marlene Scott, and Diane Scott of Detroit, MI, and Marie Scott of New York; great nieces, Joylette Dunlap and Rosemarie Dickerson; great nephew, Henry Dunlap; adopted son, Larry Wrench; best friend, Bettie Rakes; close friends, Bob and Linda Morgan; along with a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation 1:00pm and Funeral 2:00pm Friday, May 20, 2022 at MARLAN J. GARY FUNERAL HOME, THE CHAPEL OF PEACE NORTH 2500 Cleveland Ave.
