Mcdonald Erasmus Anderson Sr.

McDonald Erasmus Anderson Sr, fondly known as Bom or Uncle Bom, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on January 2nd, 2024.

McDonald was born in Monrovia, Liberia to parents Nancy D. Askie and Alfred B. Anderson on Easter Sunday, April 9th, 1950. McDonald attended the Monrovia Demonstration Elementary School, and the College of West Africa (CWA), both located in Monrovia, where he completed several post-primary years of education and met several lifelong friends.

In 1966, McDonald and his parents made the decision to send him to the United States to a host family (The Pattersons) in Springfield, Ohio in search of a better education. Upon graduating from Springfield South High School in 1968, he attended The Ohio State University (OSU) where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science. While attending OSU, he played for the varsity soccer team and was remarked as the “Liberian Sensation” in the Columbus dispatch due to his skill. He went on to receive a Juris Doctor (JD) degree from the University of Cincinnati and become a member of the Ohio State Bar Association. He described his time in Cincinnati as the best time of his life, along with meeting lifelong friends, he met and married Dolly, his beautiful wife of over 42 years and started his family.

After college, McDonald and Dolly relocated to Columbus, OH where he started his first job out of college at the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (Ohio EPA) and then accepted a role as an Attorney for the State of Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation. McDonald enjoyed being a lawyer and worked for the State of Ohio for almost 30 years. Beyond his love for law, McDonald enjoyed sports, reading, talking about politics (especially Liberian politics), and had a great love for family and friends. Whether it was the Anderson family reunions, weddings, or supporting his community, he loved to get together and spend time with family and friends. He had a larger-than-life personality, and anyone who ever met him will never forget it.

McDonald was a member of Christ United Methodist Church for over 25 years and served as a member of the board of trustees. He also was a member of the Liberian Club 50, where he held his most recent title of Treasurer. One of the happiest days of his life came in 2019 when he became a grandfather for the first time. McDonald leaves behind to carry on his legacy, his wife of over 42 years, Dolly, and three children; McDonald Jr (Pops), Marissa, and Jah Dakeynah; Granddaughter, Penelope; a host of siblings, cousins, nieces, nephews, of the Anderson, Taylor and Askie families. Also mourning his loss are close friends and his church family. McDonald was preceded in death by his parents Nancy and Alfred, sister Alnansa Anderson, and brothers A.B. Anderson, T.K. Anderson, and Brundell Taylor.

In honor of McDonald’s life, funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at 12pm, at Christ United Methodist, located at 1480 Zettler Road in Columbus, Ohio. Following the funeral ceremonies, McDonald will be laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
