From his early years, Michael’s mother imparted lessons about the nature of God, fostering a profound personal connection with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Michael diligently expressed his prayers in writing each day, cultivating a wholesome
relationship with God that endured steadfastly throughout his life.
Known affectionately as “JoJo” to those who encountered his vibrant spirit in Charleston or Oberlin and as “Michael” to those in Columbus or L.A., his warmth and kindness left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him. His presence was a beacon of love and care, his heart expansive and his spirit generous.
Michael’s culinary skills were legendary, especially when it came to his signature mac and cheese dish. A master chef in the kitchen, he delighted family and friends with Sunday and holiday meals. Beyond the kitchen, Michael’s intellect shone brightly. He was curious about everything and had a knack for using eloquent language. You were always guaranteed to learn at least one new word through his letters and conversations.
An artist at heart, Michael adorned his home with his captivating artwork and photographs of family and friends, showcasing his keen eye for beauty and creativity. Michael attended Oberlin High School in Ohio and pursued higher education at Talladega College in Alabama, where he studied Sociology, nurturing his curiosity about society and human behavior. His quest for knowledge and understanding shaped his worldview and fueled his desire to make a positive impact on the lives of those he encountered.
From coast to coast, Michael made his mark in the various cities he called home and touched the lives of many with his kindness, wisdom, and love. Michael leaves behind a legacy of love and family.
