Mother Mary Moncrief

Mary D Moncrief, age 97, passed away at her home in Columbus, Ohio, surrounded by loved ones on October 28, 2020. She was born February 20,1923 in Louin, Jasper County, Mississippi to Harry and Lucy (McGhee) Campbell.

She was united in holy matrimony to DeWitt Moncrief on April 4,1942. The family moved to Columbus, Ohio, where they united with the Triedstone Missionary Baptist Church in 1943. From this union, 6 children were born: 1 son and 5 daughters.

In her early years, Mary worked as a Midwife in Mississippi. When she relocated to Columbus, Ohio, she began her journey at the Marzetti Company, then as a domestic worker for several families in the Upper Arlington and Hillard areas. When Mary was not working, she was enjoying her time as a wife, mother, and grandmother.

Alongside her husband, the late Reverend DeWitt Moncrief, she was very active in religious endeavors throughout the Columbus community. She was very faithful in the senior choir, the Usher Board, Missionary Society, Deaconess Board; then later elevated to the Mother’s Board. She was also faithful in hospital visitations, nursing homes, prison ministry, the Helping Hand Club.

She was preceded in death by: Reverend DeWitt Moncrief (May 9th,1993), Harry and Lucy Campbell, 5 brothers, 5 sisters, her son Jason Moncrief and daughters Marsha Crosby and Beverly Davis.

Mother Moncrief leaves to cherish her memory, daughters Daisy Pierce, Kathy (John) Hill, Teresa (Joseph) Mickey, 13 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and the Triedstone family.

Mother Moncrief was a humble, loving, loyal and kind woman of God. She was known for her extraordinary cooking skills and her unique style of praise. She was also a classy woman, known for rocking hats and furs. She will be lovingly remembered by those who knew and loved her.

Public Viewing 8:30am -9:30am; Private Family Visitation 9:30am and Private Funeral 10:00am Saturday, November 7, 2020 at Triedstone Baptist Church 858 E. 3rd Ave. Mask and Social Distancing are required. Interment at Green Lawn Cemetery.
