Jack Edward Norris transitioned to his next life on May 6, 2024 after an extended illness. Jack was born at Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn, New York on February 24, 1962 to Loretta Crews and Floyd Norris Sr. Jack moved to Mansfield, Ohio as a youth and is a graduate of the Mansfield Senior High School, Class of 1980.
In his early adult years, Jack was a party animal who loved to travel to Detroit and other surrounding Ohio cities with his younger siblings Johnny and Candy where he would sign his signature name wherever he went “Shining Star” which he was.
Jack lived in Aurora, Colorado from the late 80’s securing employment with Unipac Corporation where he would meet his best friends, Tim Martinez and Jackie Burgess. Jack moved to Atlantic City, New Jersey in 1992 securing a role as a slot attendant at Tropicana Casino for more than 20 years until he retired. The highlight of his job was when his cousins, Norris, Letha, Harriett, Dawn, Selina and a host of others would come from Brooklyn and stop by Tropicana hoping to see him working.
Jack was an avid photographer and he owned quite a few nice cameras. Any event he attended, the camera was with him to capture all of the moments. You could always call him after an event and he would send you pictures. He also created photo collage frames for his walls where each one of his siblings and nieces and nephews had their own frame which included their family.
Jack never met a stranger, and created numerous friends stretching from Ohio, Colorado and New Jersey who he remained in close contact with. One thing about Jack, he loved dressing well and smelling good. He actually thought he was a model in many of his photos. Jack loved all of his nieces and nephews as if they were his own. To know Jack was to love him as he would give you his last if you needed it. He may curse you out, but you would have it. Standing at 6’6 feet he was a gentle giant who will be missed. Jack accepted Christ in his life as a child, and recently recommitted himself. His mom and the pastor of his church were extremely surprised when he would take over their prayer sessions as he was excited about God.
Jack joined Ancestry DNA where he would meet his biological father’s family, the Culmers. He was so excited to find out that he had a niece, a brother and a host of cousins all over the country including the Bahamas where they are from. Over the past year, Jack would meet with his family members every Wednesday and would spend hours discussing family and getting to know one another.
