Mr. Matthew Edward Pleasant

Mathew Edward Pleasant (AKA “PAPA”) was born February 16, 1942, in Ironton, Ohio. Preceding him in death: father, Edward T. Pleasant, mother, Mary Hobson Pleasant, sister, Shirley J Chappell, and lifelong companion, Peggy A Walters. PAPA was called home to be with the lord July 15, 2023.

Ed was educated in Ironton, Ohio, graduating from Ironton High School class of 1959. After high school, Ed joined the United States Marine Corp and later re-enlisted and joined the United States Airforce. Hard work, dedication and service to others was the cornerstone of PAPA’s character. His many interests always included humanitarian initiatives. PAPA enjoyed family, he loved to host and facilitate family events as only he could. He accepted Christ at an early age and was high spirited and truly loved the lord.

After retiring from CSX Transportation as a Brakeman, Ed proudly worked at Tony’s carry out as a “gun toting “security guard receiving recognition from the United States Deputy Sheriffs Association for his exemplary police work in Downtown Columbus. Ed was also a Freemason at the St. Mark’s Lodge No. 7.

“Fast Eddy” was highly respected for being a man of his word! He showed unconditional love to everyone encountered. He was nicknamed “Mayor of Pointdexter Village” where he resided for many years until his death. He was well loved and respected by all the residents and staffers, and he loved them all. Ed would help anyone in need no matter their circumstances.

PAPA leaves to cherish his love and memories: Two daughters, Nicole and Yvette of Columbus, Ohio, three grandsons, Ray-Ray, Nekio, and Amir, one granddaughter, Kyle’, one great grandson, Jordan, two brothers, Robert (Virginia) of Ironton, Ohio, William “Bill” Pleasant of Columbus, Ohio, and a host of nieces, nephews, and special friends.

PaPa, has led a god-inspired life and leave to his family and friends an incredible legacy of love and commitment…….
