Mr. Robert O. Floyd

Mr. Robert Oneal Floyd was born on July 15, 1937 to the late Lem and Mildred Floyd in Pageton, West Virginia. During his late childhood, Oneal, as he was affectionately known by family, was relocated to Stuart, Virginia where he was raised by his aunt and uncle, Sherman and Hattie Hagwood. Robert graduated from Patrick Central High School of Stuart Virginia. Robert was an astute and excellent student who valued education and instilled this into his children. Robert loved to read and routinely used reading as his nighttime ritual before going to bed, prior to a decrease in eyesight later in life. Robert had a strong belief and routinely engaged in prayer throughout his life, not consuming a meal or even a snack without bowing his head in prayer.

After high school, Robert met and married the love of his life, Virginia Carlene Hylton on December 20, 1958 in Martinsville, Virginia. This union was shy of them celebrating their 65th wedding anniversary this year. Born to this union were three daughters, Wanda Michelle, Kathy Laverne and Tammy Lynn. Robert and Virginia relocated to Columbus, Ohio in the summer of 1970.

During his life, Robert, also known as Bob to co-workers, dedicated many years working at Western Electric and Rhodeway, prior to his employment at Anheuser Busch, where he remained for many years until his retirement in 1999. It was during these years that the friendships he developed introduced him to the sport of bowling. Robert joined a bowling league where he perfected his skill and traveled many states competing in and sometimes, winning tournaments. Robert was proud to have bowled perfect 300-point games on several occasions. Robert was known by family and friends for his story telling and zinger phrases, often bringing laughter to those he knew.

Robert was a proud man who loved his family and who often had to be dissuaded from boasting about his family and their accomplishments. Robert enjoyed music and had a beautiful voice and often would sing around the house, prior to his health decline.

Robert is preceded in death by his parents Lem and Mildred Floyd, his first born, Wanda Michelle Floyd, his sisters, Lona Alease Lilly, Lucille Vaughn and Clemmie E. Floyd. Robert is survived by, and left to mourn his memory, his loving wife of nearly 65 years, Virginia Carlene, daughters, Kathy Floyd (Woodrow) Ross, Tammy Floyd (Stephen) White, his brother, Richard Lee Taylor Floyd, Sr., three grandchildren, Lauryn White, Jordyn Ross and Camren White, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
