Mrs. Sybil T. Edwards-Mcnabb

Mrs. Sybil Edwards-McNabb, age 76, President Emeritus of the Ohio Conference NAACP, suddenly transitioned into eternal rest on Sunday, August 12, 2018, while surrounded by her loving family.

Sybil McNabb was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio.  Her family was among the first residents of Poindexter Village, the first public government housing complex in the Nation. Sybil matriculated through the Columbus Public School System and graduated from East High School. She then attended Central State University and graduated from The Ohio State University, Bachelor of Arts Degree in Social and Behavioral Science. Continuing her educational pursuit at the master’s level at Central Michigan University. 

Mrs. McNabb had a career in public service, culminating with over 25 years of service atthe U.S.Department of Defense.  Among her many community involvements, Mrs. McNabb served on the Executive Board of the Ohio Sickle Cell and Health Association; and past President of the Long Street Business Association. Ms. McNabb was one of seven original members of the Northside Church of God, founded by her mother, Rev. Margaret Edwards and later pastored by her sister Rev. E. L’Tanya Lemon.

She leaves to cherish her memory, loving and devoted husband, Elder Ronald B. McNabb; daughter, Truphelia M. (Reginald) Parker; adoring grandsons, Jordan K. Cole, Reginald II, andRenard Sherman Parker. Siblings Rev. Rhodell (George) Valentine, Luwana (David) Hall, Elder James (Earlene) Edwards, Rev. Nancy Jones and Nadine Williams.  Numerous nieces and nephews and other extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Rev. Margaret Edwards; four sisters, one brother and four brothers-in-love, Lushanya (Herman) Lewis, Sharlene (Michael) Morgan, Rev. E. L’Tanya (Alonzo) Lemon, Samuel Jones, Joseph L. Edwards; one niece, Lisa Harrisand her beloved daughter, Tuwanda P. Sherman-Cole.

Community celebration, Friday, August 24, 2018,The King Arts Complex, 867 Mt. Vernon  Avenue, public viewing (7-8pm) and program of celebration (8-9pm).Note: Attendees are invited to wear African-inspired attire to celebrate Mrs. McNabb’s love of her culture and people.

Celebration of Life service, Saturday, August 25, 2018, First Church of God, 3480 Refugee Road. Mrs. McNabb will Lie-in-State from 10-11am; Celebration of Life Service at 11:00am. Note: All ladies in attendance are invited to wear a brightly colored hat, and gentlemen are invited to wear a brightly colored ascot, tie, bow tie, handkerchief, etc.

 

Interment at Eastlawn Cemetery.
