Nena Elaine Carr-Jackson

Nena Elaine Carr-Jackson, of Columbus, Ohio was called home to heaven on November 13, 2020 at the age of 51. Until her last breath she displayed a courageous fight for her life. Nena was born July 10, 1969 to Richard and Linda Carr.
She graduated from Mifflin High School in 1987. She attended The Ohio State University and later graduated from Franklin University with a Bachelor of Science in Human Resources Management. She also studied at Capital University and was enrolled in the Harvard Business School Online. Nena worked for the State of Ohio since 1992 in Human Resources and most recently as an EEO Coordinator.

Although her career path in Human Resources started in college, Nena’s true passion was launching numerous businesses. Her entrepreneurial spirit first bloomed when she became a Nail Artist while working through college. Through the years, she moved on to larger endeavors when she began to merge her passion for music and hip hop with her business acumen. She eventually made a name for herself within the music industry with her involvement with several successful artists, including Cam’Ron and Bizzy Bone, among others. She most recently entered the cosmetic industry with the launching of her signature cosmetic line, NenaElaine.

As Owner, Founder and CEO of the Nena Elaine Foundation, Nena developed a cosmetic line dedicated to her family and friends. Her cherished lipstick line was named in honor of her mother, sister, cousin, and her closest friends.
Nena also started The Nena Elaine Foundation, a 501 (c)(3) organized exclusively for charitable and educational purpose committed to conducting research, educating the public, assisting individuals as well as families and caregivers who support those suffering from Lupus, Kidney Disease and other autoimmune-related diseases. Additionally, Nena founded The Pink Tag and Partner in the Superstar Booking Agency.

Nena, as we all know, had many facets of her life where she excelled. If Nena committed to something she was going to follow through to the end and do it well. She took tremendous pride and joy in her unwavering commitment and dedication to the esteemed Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. Nena was initiated in the Nu Phi Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. in 1994, and in 2019, as an active member of the Columbus (OH) Alumnae chapter, she received her 25-year service award.

Nena had a passion for mentoring young girls, and in recent years, she chaired the Jabberwock Committee and the Delta G.E.M.S. program. Her leadership efforts assisted the chapter to award thousands of scholarship dollars to graduating seniors where they focused on college readiness, self-esteem, and individual growth. Nena was an integral part of the chapter’s success in its mentoring efforts. In 2018 and 2019, the Chapter received resolutions from the Columbus City Council for National Mentoring Month. She touched the lives of so many young women in Central Ohio and those relationships flourished well into their college years.

Nena Elaine was a Socialite, Traveler, Fashionista, Entrepreneur, Booking Agent, Grammy Award Winning Artist Manager, Event Planner, and Mentor. But, perhaps more than anything she was a friend and sister to many. She was truly a girl’s girl and appreciated fine couture. She was known for bringing all of her friends together, whether she was organizing a trip, or gatherings at some of her favorite restaurants. She enjoyed being in the place to be and receiving good service. When treated well during dining experiences she would often exclaim “NOW LEAVE THEM A GOOD TIP” to all of her girls just in case someone forgot.

Nena always presented herself with great poise, grace, and elegance. She leaves to cherish her memory her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard and Linda Carr, her grandmother, Mary Kearney, sister, Aneka Burton, brother George “Bretney” Carr, and two nephews, Nikko Burton and Logan Patrick. She also leaves behind several uncles, aunts, cousins, and a special cousin who was more like sister, Necolle (Brian) Steele, as well as countless friends who will miss her dearly.

Private Funeral service will be held at Christian Valley Baptist Church located at 3330 Scottwood Road, Columbus, Ohio 43227 on Saturday, November 21, 2020 at 1:30 p.m. and will be officiated by Pastor Donald A. Fitzgerald, Jr. Mask and Social Distancing are required.
