Nona L. Starks

Nona Laura “Schoochie” Gordan Starks Born February 18, 1939 to James and Virginia Gordan in Pulaski, Virginia. She was the third of seven children.

Nona went to Calfee Elementary then to Christian Burge high school in Pulaski, Virginia. From there, the family moved to Columbus, Ohio where she continued her education at Central high school where she met James E. Starks III, whom she later married and birthed five children.

Nona was in the order of Eastern Star (Ruth). Nona work at Riverside Methodist hospital where she retired Nona loved to go fishing with her beloved sister Hilda and Loved to ride the Mega bus to Illinois with her sister Joe. Nona loved to dance and have a “funky good time”.

Nona was a member of Mount Hermon Baptist Church. Nona is preceded in her death by her parents James and Virginia Gordan, and sisters Dianne Gwendolyn Gordan Wells, Hilda Alexandra and Marion Harvey and grandson Walter V. “Pooder” Lovett Jr.

Nona leaves to cherish her memories, sisters, Shirley Hendricks, Joyce Wilson, and Barbara Foster; children, Betty Burrs, James E. (Collette) Starks IV, Laurie (Rodney) Jamison, Donna (Alfonzo Clarkson), and Tracey Starks; a legacy of 16 grandchildren, 52 great grandchildren, one great great-grandchild; best friend, Janice Hawkins; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation 10:00am and Funeral 11:00am Wednesday, December 16, 2020 at MARLAN J. GARY FUNERAL HOME, THE CHAPEL OF PEACE NORTH, 2500 Cleveland Ave.

Interment at Green Lawn Cemetery.
