Oscar Aldridge Sr.

Oscar Aldridge, Sr. fell asleep and entered eternity at 87 on Sunday, July 18, 2021.  He was born January 15, 1934, in Blytheville, Arkansas to the late Willie and Grace Aldridge.  A devoted husband, he married Mildred Stringer in 1951 and remained married for 55 years until her death in December 2006.  Three children were born to their union, Oscar Jr., Larry, and Cassandra.  Oscar and Mildred relocated to Columbus, OH in 1966 where he obtained employment at the Wonder Bread factory.  He retired after 29 years of service.

Converted at the young age of 15, one constant in his life has been his love for God. Shortly after his arrival to Columbus, he joined the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, under Dr. H. Beecher Hicks, Sr. and served for 26 years.  Oscar was a devoted servant of the Lord and in 1992, he joined the Shiloh Baptist Church where he served faithfully for more than 20 years.  In his later years, he attended Union Grove Baptist Church and most recently, Corinthian Baptist Church.  Over the years, Oscar served in the church as a Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, member of various outreach ministries, as well as a member of the Usher Board and Male Choir.

Oscar enjoyed many activities, but nothing surpassed his great love of music and the acoustic guitar.  He had an outstanding voice, and in his younger years he used his talents to form two singing groups, Moon Light Travelers, and the Aldridge Singers.  Oscar always found ways to share the Word of God and the love of Jesus with others.  You could hear him singing a good ole’ time quartet song at the start of a church service or ministering in song with his guitar, and on the weekend, you could find him, his wife and children ministering at nursing homes.  Oscar believed in giving back and supporting the work of missions as demonstrated by his community service as Royal Arch Mason, a Big Brother Association volunteer for more than 10 years and his continual sponsorship of children in foreign countries.  Oscar Loved the work of the Lord.

Oscar was a strong, honest, authentic man of God, who is preceded in death by his wife, Mildred A. Aldridge; son, Oscar Aldridge Jr., parents; his sisters: Ada (James) Cates, Ruth (Chester) Williams, Ophelia (Theo) Spearman; his brothers: Joel Aldridge, Walter (May Willie) Aldridge, Floyd (Dorothy) Aldridge, Willie Jr. (Katherine) Aldridge and Corzie Aldridge.  He leaves to cherish his memory: son, Larry (Esmeralda) Aldridge; daughter, Cassandra Aldridge; grandchildren, Tedra Aldridge, Roderick Aldridge, Demond Aldridge, Ashley Aldridge, Larry Aldridge Jr., Shemeka Aldridge, Christian Hightower, Bishop Hightower and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation 10:00 AM and Funeral Service 11:00 AM Saturday, July 31, 2021 at Corinthian Missionary Baptist Church, 3161 E 5th Ave. Interment at Northlawn Memory Gardens. Ministry of Comfort entrusted to MARLAN J. GARY FUNERAL HOME, THE CHAPEL OF PEACE EAST, 5456 E. Livingston Ave.
