Patrica Ann Carter-Patterson

Patrica Ann Carter Patterson, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on May 22, 2023, at Ohio Health Mansfield. She was born on March 7, 1952, in Mansfield, Ohio, to Chesterfield Carter Sr. and Cora Elizabeth LaVaughn Carter. Patrica’s life was filled with love, music, faith, and a passion for connecting with others.

Patrica dedicated many years of her life to serving the community as a Clerk with the U.S. Postal Service. Her commitment and hard work made a difference in the lives of many. While in Tacoma she impacted people’s lives as a Greeter at Tacoma Christian Center.

Music was a significant part of Patrica’s life, and she found joy in various genres, including gospel, R&B, and jazz. She had an eclectic taste and appreciated the talents of artists like Aretha Franklin, BeBe and CeCe Winans, Outcast, and Usher. Patrica’s love for music extended beyond listening, as she loved to dance and move to the rhythm.
In her free time, Patrica enjoyed thrifting and had a particular fondness for collecting tea cups. She had an eye for unique pieces and cherished the stories and memories behind each item she collected. Patrica was also an active participant in the Post Office Softball Team, showcasing her competitive spirit and love for sports.

Writing brought Patrica immense joy, and she found solace in crafting children’s stories. Through her words, she sparked imaginations and imparted valuable lessons to young minds. Her creativity and passion for storytelling were an inspiration to many. Patrica also loved to cook and passed on that love of cooking to her oldest daughter and husband.

Patrica’s family held a special place in her heart, and she cherished the moments spent with them. She was preceded in death by her parents, Chesterfield Carter Sr. and Cora Elizabeth LaVaughn Carter, as well as her sisters Pearline Lindsay, Lorraine Williams, Sharon Jackson, and brother Thurman Carter.
Left to cherish Patrica’s memory are her loving husband, Norvel P. Patterson Sr.; devoted son, Norvel Patterson Jr.; adoring daughters, Charisma Elizabeth Joyce Patterson and Victoria Blanche Carter Patterson; caring brothers, Chesterfield (Sarah) Carter Jr., Willie (Patrica) Martin, and Thomas (Diane) Rooks; supportive sisters, Irene Carter Jackson, Alverta (Thomas) Carter Williams, Dorothy Campbell, Druecilla (Leslie) Robinson, and Minnie John. She is also survived by her grandson, LaVaughn Elijah James Patterson, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation, which will be held at 11:00 AM, followed by a Memorial Service at 12:00 PM on Saturday, June 3, 2023, at MARLAN J. GARY FUNERAL HOME, MANSFIELD CHAPEL, 753 McPherson St. (formerly Williams Funeral Services). Inurnment will take place at 10:00 AM on Monday at Mansfield Cemetery.
