Patricia Louise Reed

She’s come this far by faith. Thank God for 84 year filled with much happiness and yes some tears.

Dr. Manuel said, “She’ll never make it through the night but, God’s plans were different and the master’s always right.”

“I was a sick, little baby with pneumonia, that was so very clear and penicillin – antibiotics hadn’t been discovered yet, and my certain death was dangerously near. But my dear, she was the best, praying mother, Willa Dunn, and indeed she knew how to pray. Asked her precious Holy Father to grant her child another day. And our God did and here I am 84 years later. He saved me and now I’m living all for him.”

Patricia led a smiling, happy life on this awesome journey/trip. She has had so much laughter and some things made her flip. “Like when I was 5 or 6 at Christmas, my Sunday school asked me to sing, “Away In A Manger” to make the holidays ring. I can’t sing, I confessed but the church insisted firm and grim. So, I sang “Away In A Manger” and they never asked me to sing there again.”

Her dad died, James Long , in his early 20’s. He passed away with TB, she’s looking forward to seeing him in Heaven. “We’ll be reunited as we praise the Lord on bended knee.”

“Pappa made my childhood pleasant. So did my sister, Shirley, and brother, Jimmy, and later, my sister-in-law, Ernesteen, and all family members. We’ve always been close because we love and support one another.”

She was devoted to the Hospitality Committee at Higher Ground AAA where she worshipped the Lord. She was always willing to help, so she would volunteer at Woodcrest Elementary in her free time. She went to Norwood 11th Ave Elementary, Everett Jr. High, Central Highschool, OSU – was a member of the ETA PHI BETA Sorority, and in 1959, graduated from St. Francis Nursing School. Earning a profession by learning the golden rule.

“I did some modeling. Won a beauty contest in New York and had pictures taken with Brook Benton, Johnny Cochran, Bill Bradley, Queen Elizabeth’s sister, Princess Ann, and my favorite Hall of Famer, Bill Russell. I was a basketball fan.”

She worked in New York for the VA for 30 odd years. “Learned the struggles of living with a daughter, Katurah, and grandchildren, Josh, Asha, and Halle. Through love, blood, sweat, and tears – many tears.”

Throughout life with her many friends, she’s been blessed. “My beloved Dr. Nate, Jeanie, Darryl, Beverly, Dorothy in Tulsa, OK. Teresa, Bernice, Evetta from New York, and in 2007, Eva and Dottie went Heaven’s way.”

“I’ve been back in Ohio since the year 2002. Raising three teenagers Lord, Lord, How I need you. Hear ye, Hear ye.” Doctors, clinics, ER, dentist, shopping, football, basketball games, homework, suspensions, Honor Roll, graduations and “I’m 70 then 80 and sometimes can’t even remember my own name.”

But day after day, life rolls gently along. Some days are all right and some days are all wrong. “Oct 11, is my lucky day. God’s arms have always been around me and guided my path and my way.”

In this closing, written by the Patricia Reed. She says, “I’m so humbled to say I love
the Lord and all of you, and thank you for celebrating my 84 birthdays.”

“May God Bless you all. Thank you, Lord I’ve come this far by faith, leaning on the Lord. ”
