Phyllis Denise Bragg

Phyllis Denise Bragg, age 64, went home peacefully to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 22, 2022 surrounded by her loving family and friends. Heaven has gained another beautiful, sweet, loving, caring and most giving Angel.

She was born on August 1, 1958 to the late Alma Stone Bragg and Carrie O’Dell (Scott) Scruggs. Phyllis was a graduate of Mansfield Senior High and worked at several nursing homes. She also worked many years at Richland Correctional Institute as a Corrections Officer.

Phyllis’ love was unconditional with a heart as big as the sky and she loved her family, friends, and everyone who she was in contact with. She was totally devoted to her two most precious jewels which were her great grandchildren, twins Calvin “Mr” and Calena “Mommy” France. They were her most pride and joy and meant everything to her. Phyllis loved to cook and was a great cook especially with Soul food. Some of the food she cooked was greens, cabbage, liver onions & gravy, fried chicken, dressing, salmon patties with rice and corn. There were two things she had to have daily which was her coffee and chocolate. Her favorite television shows were the 1st 48 Hrs., CSI, Dateline and Family Feud. Other things she enjoyed doing was playing Bingo, listening to Old School, gospel, the Blues and Jazz music, reading the Bible and most of all she absolutely loved spending time with family and friends. Phyllis did not have a lot or did not live in a big house, but she always would help anyone that was in need. Her door was always open and she would always make room for you.

Phyllis is survived by her sons Darrel and Rickey, sisters Jackie (Curtis) Caldwell, Ty Mingle-Wright, Charlestine Scruggs and Vernie Mason-Jones, brothers Randy Bragg, Charles (Melissa) Scruggs, Steven (Tavia) Bragg, Chauncey (April) Bragg Sr., DeMarcus Scruggs and Bobby and Reginald Hess, stepmother Creola Bragg, uncle Erskine Bragg Sr., 10 Grandchildren, 5 Great Grandchildren and a Host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and many, many friends, god daughter Camil Waddell, bonus daughter Yolanda Lawrence, special friends and neighbors Amy France, Marcel Burke, Lynn Williams, Pamela Richardson, Marilyn Briggs, Michael Hilliard, and Marshall & Amy Fearm. She was greatly loved and will be sorely missed by her family, friends and everyone that knew her.

In addition to her parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by her brothers Ricky and Edward Scruggs and Vincent Hess Sr., grandparents Sam and Minnie Scott and James and Metilda Bragg, stepfather Charles Scruggs Sr.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 8, 2022 with the Visitation beginning at 2:00 pm and the Memorial Service at 3:00 pm at the Fairhaven Hall in the John Hertz building, 750 North Home Road, Mansfield, Ohio 44903 (Richland County Fairground).
