Phyllis “Munchie” Scales

Phyllis Jean Turner-Scales was born on July 24, 1938 to Sterling and Lorraine Turner in Gilliam, West Virginia. She was their first daughter and the older sister of Beverly.

Phyllis is the mother of two sons, Edward Michael Turner and James Sterling Brown. Phyllis was a graduate of Elkhorn High School in West Virginia. Shortly after High School, she moved with her family to Columbus, Ohio where she attended and graduated from Cosmetology School. Later in life, Phyllis married Purnette Scales.

Phyllis like to crochet, sew, cook and take care of her grandchildren. She was most happy when she could feed or take care of people and we can’t ever forget how much she liked to dance! Music or not, she would create her own beats to dance to. Phyllis worked many years with and retired from The Franklin County Welfare Dept. While there, she was known to have amazing short-hand and typing skills.

Phyllis is proceeded in death by her Father, Sterling Turner and Mother, Lorraine Turner.

She is survived by her two sons, Edward Michael (Tina) Turner and James Sterling Brown; her only sister, Beverly Wallace; her grandchildren, Krissi (Mia & Gigi) Kayla, Mychal, Christopher, Aubrey, Andre, Sydney, Stacy, Ashleigh, Sean and Curtis; a host of great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
