On the late afternoon of Monday, January 23, 2023, Randy Eugene Smith passed away peacefully,
surrounded by family and friends at the Ohio State University Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. He was 45
years of age.

Randy (Gene) attended Centennial High School in Columbus, Ohio and played on the football team.
He was a very smart and articulate young man. He enjoyed writing short stories and had hoped to
publish them one day. Gene was a hard worker and spent most of his years working in the food service
industry.

He was very proud of his heritage and the Milo Grogan community that he grew up in. Although he
moved away, the Milo neighborhood was always close to his heart. Gene was a peaceful and loving
person that enjoyed having fun and making people laugh. His personality drew many friends that
enjoyed his company and humor. If you knew him well, you would know that he was a true fan of both
the Chicago Bears and the OSU football teams – Go Bucks!

Gene was a true girl dad! He spent quality time with his beautiful daughters and grandchildren;
teaching and inspiring them to be the best they could be. His late daughter, Unique (Munchie) was
especially close to him; she was the apple of his eye and brought him so much joy. Gene was a loyal
man who loved his family and made sure that they were protected and cared for.

His two best friends were Portia, whom he had a long-lasting relationship of 26 years, and his favorite
first cousin, Tobias. They were both a blessing to his life and dear to his heart.

Gene was baptized at Triedstone Baptist Church in Columbus, Ohio. He made a confession of his
belief in the Lord, Jesus Christ with his grandmother and mother before his passing at OSU Hospital.
Gene was born in Columbus, Ohio on October 5, 1977. He was the oldest son of Charlene Gause and
Randy Harper.

Preceded in death by father, Randy Harper; daughter, Unique Robinson; grandmother, Catherine Whisenant; grandfathers; Charles Riley Smith Sr; James Patrick Harper Sr; step-grandfathers, Walter Whisenant and Spencer Berger; brother, Christian Lee Bowers.

Survived by the love of his life, Portia Carey; His beloved mother, Charlene (Jim) Gause;
grandmother, Aileen Smith-Berger; daughters, Kyireshkia Carey; Quotaisha Frazier; grandchildren,
Nakyra, Kevin, Shakyia, Christopher, Jakyla, Tahkyja and Quintavious; brother, Rashawn Smith;
sisters, Charlotta (Will) Smith and Chanelle Smith and a host of uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces,
cousins, and close friends.

Visitation 10:00 AM and Funeral Service 11:00 AM Wednesday, February 8, 2023 at Chapel of Peace – East, 5456 E. Livingston Ave.

Interment at Eastlawn Cemetery.
