Raylonn Smith

Mrs. Raylonn Cox-Smith hereby extends to us her new address on the avenue of Blessedness, in the city called Beautiful, and in the state of Eternal Rest and Peace. Born on July 13, 1954, at Mercy hospital in Toledo, Ohio first child to Rachel Lee (Walker) Cox and Clarence Cox. On June 20, 2022, at age 67, God in His infinite wisdom deemed it best to call our beloved mother home. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother Tommy Nolan and loving husband Curtis Louis Smith, Jr.

Raylonn was employed by the State of Ohio for 25 years as a Licensure/Contract Negotiator Manager for the Ohio Department of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities. She was awarded the employee of the month commendation by Governor Voinovich in 1995. She worked another 2 years within the State of Ohio at the Department of Taxation and Workman’s Compensation until she retired in 2006.

Raylonn confessed in Christ at an early age at Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church in Toledo. She served as a soprano in the Angelic Choir and the famous Queens of Harmony. She also served as a Sunday school teacher and youth mentor. She relocated to Columbus, Ohio and quickly found a new church home at Triedstone Missionary Baptist Church where she was a faithful member and served in the Angelic Voices Choir. She also briefly attended Oasis of Love Community Church before making New Birth Christian Ministries her new church home where she attended services with her daughter, Toya Raylonn, where they were both members.

Raylonn studied to obtain a bachelor’s degree in Public Administration at the University of Toledo and Capitol University. She was a graduate of Macomber/Whitney High School. Following in the footsteps of her late mother, Raylonn was a member of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Columbus Chapter. She volunteered her time at the King Arts Complex for several years as well as at the Marion Franklin Community Recreation Center. Mother Raylonn was the matriarch of the family and loved to bake her famous sweet potato pies and delicious homemade mac and cheese. Her favorite past time was reading a delightful book.

Raylonn leaves to mourn her passing, her loving daughters Toya Raylonn Vickers (Adekanola) and zoë (nikisha) vickers (Tahrim Kahlis); brothers Clarence Hollis Cox (Linda), Steve Cox, Earl Robert Cox (Rosa), Michael Anthony Cox (Alicia), and Adrian Lamont Cox; sisters Denise Jarmon, Diane Marie Cox Buchanan (Rodney Sr., deceased); Delores Catherine Cox Moultrie (Alvin) and Gloria Jean Hill; her beloved best friends Stephanie Ann Smith, Sharon Snow and Mary Murphy (Vincent, deceased); her Godson Harrison Storm Smith; nieces Lakeya Cox, Cherise Jarmon, Dajnae Cox, Heavenly Cox and Rachel Cox; nephews Jason Coleman (Amie), Levert Jarmon (Bridgette), Rodney Buchanan Jr., Terrance Jarmon (Destiny) Deandre and Allen Cox; a multitude of aunts, uncles and cousins, extended family as well as other loving friends
