Reginald Gordon Mahone Iii

Reginald Gordon Mahone III, affectionately known to family and friends as “Butch” was born in Columbus, Ohio on August 3, 1952, to Reginald Gordon Mahone, Jr. and Anne Pearl Mathis. He attended Linden-McKinley High School in Columbus, Ohio and Job Corps in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Reginald was a faithful member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Columbus, Ohio where he enjoyed worshipping and fellowshipping with other members and guests and served on Usher Board, Choir, Food Pantry, and Missionary Ministry. He was always excited to share his love for Jesus. On Sunday morning, his ritual was to kneel before the alter in prayer before ushering. He looked forward to greeting members and guests with a “Dap”. Reginald retired from Columbus City Schools after 25 years of custodial service. After retirement he served his community as a poll worker for the Franklin County Board of Elections, and he was also a greeter at Thompson Community Recreation Center.

Reginald’s greatest joy was being together with family and friends. Laughter was expected when in his presence, followed by a sense of belonging. A couple of his favorite sayings are, “I love you and there’s nothing you can do about it”, and “Get Ready”. He opened his home and heart to family and friends and was an avid Ohio State University sports fan.
Reginald transitioned to his heavenly home suddenly, on Sunday, February 20,2022, at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, Columbus, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, Reginald Mahone, Jr., and Anne Mathis; sister, Norma Jean Mahone; and brother, Ernest Henderson.

Reginald leaves his precious memories to be cherished by wife, Karen Hurdle Mahone of 14 years, whom he lovingly called “Crayon”; daughters, Eunika Mahone, Gina Mahone, and Danielle Hurdle; sons, Reginald (Tawanna) Mahone, IV, Rennell (Shakiyla) Mahone, Demond Deal (Lorraine Arnold), and DaCorey Hurdle, Sr.; brothers, Ronald (Karen) Mahone, Gerald and Michael Henderson, and Herbert Mathis, Hr.; sister, Alberta Idley and step sister, Trina Cain, all of Columbus, Ohio; 17 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; brother-in-law, John(Sandra) Cephas; sister-in-law, Brenda Tyler; special friends, Al Brown, Michael Johnson, Norman Smith, Crystal Jones, and Gina White; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other friends.
