Reverend Carl Allen, Sr

Faithful pastor, loving father, dependable brother and uncle, and a true friend to many, Rev. Carl W. Allen, Sr. transitioned from death to eternal life while being comforted by his daughter, Rosie Lee on April 30, 2021.

Rev. Allen was born on December 16, 1927 in Columbus, Ohio and throughout his adult years lived a God-fearing life until his death at the age of 93. Preceded in death by his parents, Dallas Rance Allen and Daisy Ruth (Petty) Allen; devoted wife of 40 years, First Lady Mary L. (Dickerson) Allen; son, Carl Allen, Jr.; brothers, Marshall Allen, Dallas Allen, Rev. Calvin Allen, Leroy Allen, and Joseph Allen; sisters, Mildred Mapp and Ruby Williams.

Rev. Allen attended Marion Road Elementary School where he had a fondness for his teacher, Mr. Matthews. Although his children did not know Mr. Matthews, they also liked him for the stories they heard their father shared about him. Rev. Allen shared how Mr. Matthews taught them the importance of loving everyone no matter their background, race, and ethnicity. Rev. Allen said he wished Mr. Matthews lived to witness the first black United States president elect, President Barack Obama.

Rev. Allen graduated from South High School, and Simmons Bible College, Louisville, Kentucky, where he and his brother and closet friend, Rev. Calvin Allen attended. Rev. Allen was associated with various churches in Columbus, Ohio including, St. Luke Baptist, Loving Charity Baptist, Mt. Carmel Baptist, Rock of Ages, and Flintridge Baptist. He later was called to the pastorship of Rose of Sharon Non-Denominational Church after the death of the pastor, Rev. Ferris. There he served as the under shepherd for 30 years until he stepped down in 2020 due to health reasons.

In his early years, Rev. Allen was employed at Curtiss-Wright Manufacturing, and DCSC when his started his closer walk with God. He later worked more than 40 years at Ohio Mallable Iron Company, and was proud of his positive work ethics and good work history, only missing two days during his entire employment. And although he retired in 1980 at age 52 due to his health, Rev. Allen would always say that “God has been taking care of ‘me and mine’ ever since.” One of his favorite scriptures was Psalms 37:25 when David said, “I have been young and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.” He also said that God will never forsake you, and believe God for the impossible, and it is done.

Rev. Allen was a humble man, a gracious and grateful man. He greeted everyone with a smile and a kind word. He was a man of integrity, a simple man who did not want you to fuss over, even not wanting the spotlight on him at his church anniversaries. In business and general conversations, Rev. Allen regarded people with the utmost respect no matter how young or old, addressing with “yes mam, yes sir, no mam, no sir.” He also had a kind and giving heart and contributed to city-wide and world-wide ministries as well as various charities home and abroad including Israel, Africa, Mercy Ships, St. Jude, and Food for the Poor (FFP).

Rev. Allen taught his children that tithing and sowing seeds are essential as children growing up and as adults. He taught when you “tithe, tithe, tithe, give, give, give” that there are multitude of blessings in those acts alone. He loved the Lord, and placed emphasis on things that honored God, like praying, fasting and studying the Word. The Bible was his 3rd appendage, like his 3rd arm, constantly reading and studying that one member of his church, Sis Marie called him the “Walking King James.”

Upon Rev. Carl Allen’s transitioning, he is survived by his dedicated and faithful daughter, Evangelist Rosie Frazier Almon, Sis Janie Allen, grandson, John Cassidy Allen, sisters, Ola Bibb, Daisy Wilson, Grace McBroom, Deborah Western, and Barbara Valentine; special nephew David Beasley, and a host of other relatives and friends, and members of Rose of Sharon Non-Denominational Church.

Visitation 10:00am and Funeral 11:00am Monday, May 10, 2021 at MARLAN J. GARY FUNERAL HOME, THE CHAPEL OF PEACE NORTH, 2500 Cleveland Ave.

Interment at Evergreen Burial Park.
