Richard Leroy Anderson

Richard Leroy Anderson, affectionately known as “Rick,” was born to Henry Lee and Alfredia Anderson on January 1, 1969, in Asheville, North Carolina. He was the second son in the Anderson family, growing up alongside his older brother Lee and younger brother Courtney. In 1971, the family relocated to Columbus, Ohio, where they embraced their new home and became avid fans of the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Rick, a proud “Girl Dad,” cherished his role in raising his daughters. His journey into fatherhood began with Tiarra in 1987, followed by Da’lynn in 1996, and Adalinah in 2013. Despite the passage of time, Rick remained his mother’s baby, a bond that endured throughout his life.

Raised in Columbus City Schools on the Southside of Columbus, Rick forged lifelong friendships both in his neighborhood on South 22nd Street and on the football field with the Mohawk Raiders. Alongside his big brother, Lee, Rick was a well-known figure, surrounded by friends who were like family. The establishment of the Eastside Freeze Crew in the early ’80s solidified these bonds, creating a brotherhood that would last a lifetime.

Rick shared his life with Monica Bayne for 13 years, a relationship filled with love and care. On February 19, 2024, Rick was called home to be with the Lord, leaving behind a community shattered by his unexpected passing. Yet, in the midst of grief, his loved ones find solace in the words of Psalm 34:18-22: “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.”

In addition to his parents, Rick was preceded in death by his grandmother, Mae Bell Cureton; grandparents, Frank and Alice Williams; and his beloved fur baby, Mr. Bentley.

Rick’s memory lives on through the legacy he leaves behind: Three cherished daughters, Tiarra Keene, Da’lynn Anderson, and Adalinah Cundiff; his devoted significant other, Monica Bayne; his brothers, Anthony Lee Anderson and Courtney Lemont Anderson; his grandson, Jaiden Keene; nieces, nephews, and a multitude of loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends; The Eastside Freeze Crew; the extended Anderson, Byrd, Jackson, and Williams families.

Though Rick’s physical presence may be gone, his spirit remains eternally vibrant in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
