Robert “Bob” Ogletree

Robert “Bob” Ogletree, age 86, passed away on Dec. 2, 2022 at his home after a battle with Alzheimer’s disease. He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio to parents Clarence and Mary Ogletree. A few years later, the family moved to Batavia, Ohio where he was raised.

Bob married the lovely Elizabeth “Betty” Yvonne Dorsey on December 6, 1958 and to this union, two daughters were born, Glendal (Ogletree) Jones and Robin (Ogletree) Wilson. Bob joined the United States Air Force (USAF), and served his country 22 years before retiring. His family was always with him. The family moved to Columbus, Ohio where he worked at the Defense Supply Center Columbus, (DSCC), for 24 years before retiring once again. He was always proud of his 46 total years of service.

Bob joined Macedonia Baptist Church in the early 80’s where he served as deacon, worked with the youth sports programs, and taught bible study. Bob also sang in the male chorus and was the life-time president of the Lenora Young Missionary Circle. He was also a long-time member of the Lott Carey Laymen’s League where he served as the devotion leader at their conventions. He was famously known for always telling jokes and his “Thought for the Day” emails as one of his favorite sayings was “It’s just nice to be nice.”

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Mary Ogletree; his loving first wife, Elizabeth Ogletree; sisters Susan Ogletree, Betty (Raymond) Roach, and Mary Lou (E. Marshall) Bohannon; brothers, Clarence (Carolyn) Ogletree Jr., and Joseph Ogletree.

In March 2000, Bob married Gail Brown Thrweatt, and acquired two more children: Daughter, Ronda Thrweatt and son, Darius Thrweatt.

He is survived by his wife, Gail Ogletree; daughters, Glendal Jones, Robin (Stephen) Wilson, and Ronda Thrweatt, son, Darius (DaLyn) Thrweatt; brothers, Ronald (Donna) Ogletree and Donald Ogletree; eight grandchildren, Daren Jones, Jalen Jones, Christian Walker, Darius Thrweatt II, Stephen Avery Wilson, Amari Wilson, Daniel Thrweatt, Della Thrweatt, and one great-grandson, Caden Jones. In addition, two special nieces: niece/daughter number three Eleese Bohannon-Scott, and niece Karen Dorsey-Knight, affectionately called “George,” and a host of other family too numerous to count.

As a husband, father, brother, uncle, cousin, friend and more, Bob adored every member of his family and was determined to share long-lasting memories with all—especially family residing in Delaware—throughout the nation. First and foremost, Bob loved the Lord. His family was a close second, along with a tremendous group of devoted friends.

All gratitude and blessings to those very special persons who assisted in his care: Karen Knight, Shanelle “Misty” Brown, Christian Walker, Ronda Thrweatt, Heather Harper, and all the fantastic people at Promedica/Heartland Hospice. God bless all those who remembered our family with cards, phone calls, texts, flowers, food, visits, and prayers.
