Robert Campbell, Sr

Master Sergeant Robert Campbell Sr. (USAF, Retired), the son of Julius Campbell and Sadie Susie Green, was born on November 18, 1939 in Charleston, South Carolina. His father preceded him in death.

After attending the public schools in Charleston County, he began an outstanding 28-year military career in the Army then transferred into the Air Force. His duty stations included Maxwell AFB, AL; Plattsburgh AFB, NY; Griffiss AFB, NY; and Offutt AFB, NE where he retired in 1988. His most memorable and distinguished services included his role as Senior NCO scheduler for the RC-135 Reconnaissance (spy) Aircraft.

After retirement from the Air Force, Bob relocated to Columbus, OH where he worked as a security officer for 5/3 Bank for over 10 years. He was an avid bowler and member of the Casual Social Club, RAFA, and the VFW.

Bob is preceded in death by his daughter, Sheena Roberta Campbell; brother, James V. Waring; and sister, Vernell L. Green.

Bob is survived by his wife, Brenda Gartrell Campbell; his mother; Sadie S. Green of Charleston, SC,; his sons: Dr. Robert Campbell, Jr. of Portsmouth, VA (Lt. Col, USAFR, Retired), Marcus Campbell  (LaTanja), Goose Creek, SC (SFC, US Army, Retired), Kyle Robert Campbell , Holyoke, MA, John Porter (LaDonna) of Sacramento, CA,; stepdaughter, Monica Gartrell; seven grandchildren; Marcus DeVaughn Campbell of Columbia, SC, Sterling Marqui Campbell of Atlanta, GA and Camariah Alexis Campbell & Camaryn Ashanti Campbell of Goose Creek, SC, Andy Rosario, Elijah Campbell and Shae Campbell of Holyoke, MA; one brother Charles (Ruth) Green of Charleston, SC; brother-in laws, Montecarlo Gartrell and Ricardo Gartrell ; special friends, John Lee and Ellen Rhodes. Bob leaves to cherish his memories a host of siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins and many other relatives and special friends.

Visitation 11:00am and Funeral 12:00pm Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at MARLAN J. GARY FUNERAL HOME, THE CHAPEL OF PEACE EAST, 5456 E. Livingston Ave. 

Inurnment at Dayton National Cemetery.
