Robert James Gates

Robert James Gates, age 51, passed on December 25, 2022. Robert was born on April 27, 1971 to the late Christine Diane Gates Jones and Robert James McBroom, Jr. in Columbus, Ohio.

Robert, aka “Gator” was loved by everyone he met. Growing up, Robert was a boxer for the Sullivan Gardens and Sunshine Recreation Centers. He participated in modeling events and other various activities for the centers. He was a jokester, family man and loved his kids and grandchildren. He got his first Cadillac at 18 years old and was called “Cadillac Robbie”.

He met Nicole Campbell in 2014 and married in 2017. To that union, two daughters were born, giving him a total of seven children.

Robert was preceded in death by his mother; Christine Diane Gates Jones, grandmothers; Mattie Lee Barnett, Magnolia Bernice Dunbar and Betty Ellis, aunt; Wilhemina Barnett, cousins; Michael Gates, Curtis Martin, Geromy Barnett, Kenny Wayne Jenkins, Cezary Garner, and Carlos Garner.

Robert leaves to cherish his memories, wife; Nicole Campbell Gates, children; Marquis Fordham, Brittany Gates, Keith Williams, Mekiah Sharp, Robert James Gates, Jr., Zaynaab Gates, Layla Gates, grandchildren; Londyn Sharp, Aurhi Bangura, and soon to be granddaughter, special cousins; Gloria Tarr, Willie Barnett and Christopher Barnett.

He will be truly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing and loving him.
