Roberta Jean Tucker

Roberta Jean “Jeannie” (Coleman) Tucker, 71, was born September 27, 1951 to the union of Robert and Margaret Coleman in Charleston, West Virginia. Her parents relocated to Shepard neighborhood in Columbus, Ohio. Growing up, Roberta and her three sisters were known as the Coleman girls.

Jeannie received her education in the Columbus City School System and attended Eastmoor High School. During that time, she met James Tucker, II. They were inseparable, and later married in 1969. To their union were born five children. Jeannie was a very devoted wife and loving mother. While their children were young, she stayed at home to raise and nurture them, being sure they had everything they needed. When her husband became ill, she went into the workforce. Jeannie worked and retired from Roxanne Laboratory.

Roberta was a long-time member of Corinthian Missionary Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir. She believed in not only prayer and faith, but action as well. She loved to spread positivity and was an encourager. She always looked at the glass as half full. In her private time, she enjoyed writing prayers and poems for herself, her children, and those who were close to her.

Jeannie loved to have fun. She enjoyed spending time with her mother and sisters. On Thursday and Friday nights, they would get together to play cards or watch movies and have lots of laughs. There was never a dull moment. Her beverage of choice was a nice cold can of Pepsi.

“Momma Jean-Jean”, as she was affectionately called by her grandchildren, played an intricate role in raising two of her grandsons, David and James “Jay” IV. She would call them her “little big men”. She loved and adored all of her grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with all of them.

Jeannie was a fighter. She began her battle with Stage 4- Breast Cancer in 2014. She fought a long courageous fight. She was a strong and blessed woman. She fought until she couldn’t fight any more. Surrounded by family, Jennie peacefully departed this life on Monday, May 22, 2023 to join in Heaven, her husband, James Tucker, II; daughter, DeAnna Michelle Tucker; and father, Robert Coleman.

Left to cherish her beautiful memory, her children, Anthony (Janica) Tucker, I, Lisa (Terry) Cooper, Kristian Tucker, and James Tucker, III; mother, Margaret Coleman; sisters, Jodie Hodnett, Belinda Booker, and Marilynn Crockett; grandchildren, Teirra (Dyshawn) Pinager, Anthony Tucker, II, Taja Tucker-Cooper, Terri Tucker-Cooper, Khalil Tucker, David Jones, Antonio Tucker, Zanis Tucker, James (Jay) Tucker IV, Taylor Cooper, Janiya Tucker, Brooklynn Tucker, and Kai Tucker; great grandchildren, Zyon Pinager, Brook’Lynn Pinager, Chavon Weaver, Hazel Ray, Chloe Weaver, Mahogany Alexander, Makenzie Alexander, Kamiyah Tucker, Israel Pinager, Jermaine Taylor, Jr., River Moore, Anthony Tucker, III, and Amiri Tucker; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.

Jeannie will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing and loving her.
