Rogetta Altherstein Rogers Woods, daughter of the late Dewitt Rogers and Donna Mae (Bell) Rogers, was born on September 8, 1956. Rogetta transitioned at The Ohio State University Hospital East on Friday, August 16, 2024.
Rogetta is preceded in death by her parents, Dewitt Rogers and Donna Mae (Bell) Rogers; paternal grandparents, Ezra and Hattie (McDonald) Bosley; maternal grandparents, David and Louise (Bell) Porter; and aunt, Delfreda Porter; father and mother-in-law, Oscar, Sr. and Anna Mae Woods; sister-in-laws, Lynette Woods and Debra Woods.
Affectionally known as “Stein”, she spent her childhood living on Sidney Avenue in the Milo-Grogan community. She attended Eleventh Avenue Elementary and Linmoor Junior High Schools, and at an early age, joined Lee Avenue United Methodist Church and attended Trinity Baptist Church. In the summer of 1969, Stein’s family moved to the Mount Vernon community where she attended East High School and became a proud member of the gospel choir.
As a junior at East High School, Stein unexpectedly lost her mother. She courageously raised her youngest brother on her own, then successfully graduated in 1974. She became an East High School “Tiger Forever” and cherished living on Granville Street for 55 years. Stein always welcomed family and friends, offering her specialty sweet tea or a Pepsi, weekly made cheesecake or pound cake, lasagna, dinner rolls, while sharing her passion for tropical plants, numerous travel excursions, entertaining Friday night card games, listening to her favorite Luther Vandross tunes, and loving her diva nails!
Stein was employed as a Dietary Aide at St. Ann’s Hospital for over 30 years; a Bus Driver at Columbus City Schools; and an Accounting Clerk at the Ohio Attorney General’s Office for over 20 years. Stein leaves so many memories to cherish.
