Ronald Clayton

Ronald Andre Clayton, aka Ronnie or Tutu, was born on January 10, 1970 in Columbus, Ohio to Kate Cox and Ronald (Ronnie) Clayton. He grew up on the north side of Columbus; and, spent time working or gathering with friends and family. Daily, he shared stories and laughs…especially with his mom. “He was truly a momma’s boy…and always wanted to hug me,” Kate said.

Ronald graduated from Northland High School in 1987, as a skilled and valuable player who contributed to Northland’s basketball team at the forward position. After high school, Ronald worked as a professional barber, licensed by the State of Ohio, for approximately 30 years. The majority of his career was spent at the Focus on You Salon and Barber Shop, located on Cleveland Avenue in the City of Columbus.

His heart was enormous and so was his character. As a young adult, he voluntarily stepped into the “father figure” role for his younger sister, Rhoneeca. “I remember getting out of elementary school and he would be there waiting…daily…no matter what,” she replied. Ronald was also a true comedian according to close cousins, Thomas “Bop” Lyles and Milton Hayes, who followed in his footsteps as the coldest barbers in Columbus, Ohio. In later years, Ronald was a frequent consumer (and promoter) of both Dr. Pepper and Donato’s Pizza. (lol)

Ronald’s legacy will continue through his 20-year old son, Semaj Andre Clayton. They shared a special bond throughout the years which could never be broken. Ronald always made sure his last words spoken (before they departed each time) was “I love you, son.” Those words continue to linger as Ronald was never ashamed of his emotional heart or to speak loving words to those he truly cared for.

Blessed with 52 years of life, Ronald was preceded in death by his father Ronald (Ronnie) Clayton, grandparents James and Eloise V. Clayton, Aunt Norma Ferguson, Uncle Charles (Pete) Clayton, James “Jim” Ferguson; as well as close friends Marvin Cox and “Big Bill” Dublin.

In addition to his son, Semaj Andre Clayton, Ronald leaves behind a loving and devoted family including his mother Kate Cox, paternal aunt Charlotte Lawson, brother Joe L. (Eric) Cox, Jr., sisters Diane (Michael) Cox, Rochelle (Jeffery) Whitlow, Rhonda Clayton, and Rhoneeca (Clai) Cox; nieces Renatta Cumberlander and Raniyah Whaley (whom he was very fond of and only wanted the best for her); as well as a host of family, extended family, and friends.
