Roosevelt Windham

Roosevelt Windham made his transition into the glorious presence of the Lord on July 26, 2022, after a short illness, at Ohio Health Mansfield Hospital. He resided with his wife, Louise Anice Windham, in Madison Township, Mansfield, Ohio.

Roosevelt was born on January 2, 1941, in Columbus, MS to the union of Henry Lee Windham and Annie Lou (Cameron) Windham. He was the third of 13 children born to this union.

Roosevelt was also well known from the far north end Hoffers Addition neighborhood called the Company Line. Roosevelt attended Mansfield Senior High School where he excelled in track and other sport activities.

Roosevelt was employed by Empire Steel, now known as United Steelworkers of Mansfield, in 1959. Roosevelt was promoted to the Pickle Line Department in 1964 because of his strong work ethic and was recognized by his supervisors and co-workers as the best Trimmer Operator on staff. He retired in 1992 after 33 years of dedicated service with the company.

Roosevelt was a member of Providence Baptist Church in Mansfield where he was fondly recognized as an Honorary Deacon. He was a longtime member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Usher, Choir Member, and worked with the kitchen’s culinary arts and bus ministries.

Roosevelt was the patriarch of the Windham Family. He was also well known from the far north end Hoffers Addition neighborhood called the Company Line. He was a Life Member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). Everyone loved and honored Roosevelt and looked to him for leadership, support and guidance on life and special circumstances.

Roosevelt is survived by his wife of 58 years, Louise Anice Windham; daughters, Ronda (Stanley) Jordan of Virginia Beach, VA and Tonya (Gregory) Jackson of Mansfield; siblings Harris (Charlene Alice) Windham of Corona, CA and Brenda Kay Windham of Mansfield; grandchildren, Ja’Brell (Tenisha) Windham Sr. of Mansfield, Chalonte’ (Marcus) Coffee of E. Dallas, TX, Delonte’ (Mary) Windham of Youngstown, OH, Telae Jordan and Stacia Jordan of Virginia Beach, VA; great-grandchildren Ja’Brell Windham Jr. of Mansfield, OH, Ty’Karean Windham, Jahkoy Windham and Tylejia’ Windham of Ashland, OH, Christian Coffee of E. Dallas, TX, and A’Mariana Windham of Mansfield; sisters-in-law, Marvelene Windham, Linda Windham, Marcia Rucker, Mira Windham, Brinda D. Windham, and Deloris Henley all of Mansfield; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Roosevelt is preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Mattie Lee (Bobby) Stevens, Lois Windham, Tommy Windham, James Windham, Wallace Windham, Roseann Windham, Floydzell Windham and Parris Windham and sister-in-law, Berna Joyce Jackson.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 2, 2022, from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at Providence Baptist Church, 112 W. 6th Street, Mansfield, OH 44903. Pastor Mark Cobb will officiate the Home Going Celebration beginning at 11:00 a.m. Roosevelt will be laid to rest in the Mansfield Cemetery.

The repass will be held at the North End Community Improvement Collaborative, 486 Springmill Street, Mansfield, OH 44903.
