Russell B. Jones

Russell Bernard Jones, 51, of Columbus, Ohio, departed this life Thursday, July 9, 2020, at home. Born July 1, 1969 in Elyria, Ohio. “Russ” was the eldest of three children attended Independence High School. After graduation he earned a certification in Horticulture as a Tree Trimmer and Lawn Care Specialist. Russell worked while combining those skills with his love of travel, grilling and barbecue competitions across the country.

Russell’s creed was “Family First” – he never met a stranger. He enjoyed special relationships with his sons, grandsons, nieces and nephews. They knew they were all his “favorite” – determined by who was present at that moment!

He gave his life to Christ at a young age in Elyria. He enjoyed audio and video sermons, gospel music and jazz. Russell loved traveling, fishing, grilling, basketball, shooting pool and reading.

Of all his accomplishments, what brought Russ his largest sense of pride was being a warm-hearted and adoring father to his sons, grandsons and to the sons and daughters in his extended family.

In addition to his loving and devoted mother, Bernadine Robinson Jones, he leaves to cherish his memory, his sons Brandon Massey, Lemarco Jones and Russell Day’John Jones, siblings Barbra Michelle (Jason) Jones-Leister and George Level (Michelle) Jones; grandsons, Jayshaun Kareem and Jayveon Kamau Massey; his very special soul mate, Doris “Peaches” Allen, along with a host of nieces, nephews; cousins, extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parent, George Jones III, paternal grandmother Frankie Mae Daniels and Emma Junior and maternal grandparents, Marshall Lee and Velma Lee (Moore) Robinson.
