Sanders Young

Sanders Young Jr., affectionately known as, “Sand Man, Bags, Paw-Paw, and Pops, passed away peacefully, Monday July 25th, 2016. He crossed the finish line of life, surrounded by his beloved family, and the caring and compassionate staff of Mount Carmel West Hospital (I.C.U.).

Born February 15th, 1949, in Dayton, Ohio to the late Sanders Young Sr. and Hattie Young-Edmondson. He was preceded in death by his two sisters, Cynthia Young and Margaret Robinson.

Those left to cherish his memories are his dedicated wife of 45 years, Helen “Debbie” Young, 3 sons: Sanders, Booker, and Newcombe (Tanya), 2 daughters: Sandra and Tieshia, 2 sisters: Doreen (Gerald) Jiles of Columbus, GA, and Arnethia (David) of Randolph, VA, 18 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Sanders attended Roosevelt High School and Ohio State University, prior to earning a degree from Antioch College. After his career at Frigidaire, Sanders went on to explore other employment ventures. He made numerous stops around Indiana and Dayton, before he and his family settled in Columbus, Ohio, where he acquired many friends and associates, all while doing exactly what he wanted to.

Sanders was a quiet, kind-hearted, and fun loving, and although he would never brag, he was exceedingly intelligent. Being the eclectic man that he was, Sanders enjoyed jazz musicians so much that he named two of his sons after some of his favorites. He often acted as an essential caretaker for his grandchildren, whom he loved, cherished and protected, and his sisters and their families, during their times of need.

Sanders “the husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend, will truly be missed. He was an intricate part of his family that can never be replaced.
