Sgt Clyde E. Phillips Sr.

Clyde was given the title “The Man, The Myth, The legend” by his granddaughter Samerrah who he fashionably nicknamed “Jack”. He was a son, brother, husband, father, pawpaw, great-grandfather, father-in-law, brother-in-law, uncle, cousin and friend to many.

Clyde worked for the Timken company for 17 years. He then went on to work for the Franklin County Sheriff for 28 years and retired May of 2015.

Clyde excelled in various positions such as; Sergeant, Detective, and Supervisor. He truly enjoyed his job and co-workers. After retirement, he maintained friendships with Jerry Posers, Mike Turner and Mike Powell just to name a few. He had so many! Clyde gave respect and was given respect from those he worked with and his friend Chuck Osborne.

Clyde earned many awards and commendations during his years of service such as; Homeland Security, Michigan and Ohio BCI Drug Task Force, HIDTA Drug Task Force, FBI Special Investigation Unit and many more. A job well done! Clyde was filled with so much pride when his son and namesake, Clyde Phillips II joined him at the Franklin County Sheriff Department before he retired.

Clyde Edward Phillips was born in Centreville, Alabama, November 25, 1950 to Jasper and Ada Phillips.

Preceding him in death are his parents, brothers, Willie James Phillips, Johnnie Phillips, Thomas Phillips and Billie Phillips; sisters, Marquerite (William) Dobyne, Dora (John Henry) Murphy and Dorothy Dukes.

Clyde leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of nearly 40 years, Alice Marie Phillips; children, Casandra (Carlton) Green, Krystal (Marvin) Draper, Lakesha (Joseph) Wyse, Clyde (Magin) Phillips II; bonus son, Michael Turner; 12 grandchildren, Marvin Draper III, Charisse Green, Khalyn Draper, Madison Draper, Christopher Green, Ebony Wyse, Essence Wyse, Elijah Wyse, Samerrah Phillips, Rashead Phillips, Jontice Phillips, Clyde Phillips III; great-grandchildren, Dallas Draper, Kynlee Baker; sisters, Rena Phillips of Brent, Alabama, Ada Phillips, Minnie (Jerry) Harvey of Columbus, Ohio.

All of Clyde’s family was very dear to his heart. He would have long conversations about gardening, family and hot topics.

Special nieces, Martha (John) Taylor of Colorado Springs, Mary Murphy, Patricia Driver, Tina Wilson, Willia Mae Phillips of Alabama; special nephew, John Murphy, Jr. of Alabama. Between Columbus, Ohio, Brent, Alabama and Colorado Springs, Cyde has 28 nieces and nephews, 23 great nieces and nephews and 34 great great nieces and nephews. Cyde maintained a close relationship with many cousins and childhood friends, from teachers to his high school coach, Mr. Miller and special cousins, Bruce Rutledge and Jimmy Martin, both from Brent, Alabama.

Visitation 9:00 AM and Funeral Service 11:00 AM Saturday, April 16, 2022 at MARLAN J. GARY FUNERAL HOME, THE CHAPEL OF PEACE EAST, 5456 E. Livingston Ave. Masks are required.
Interment at Green Lawn Cemetery.
