The Hidden Secret

By divine design there were two hearts with the same beat, in their Mother’s womb did she safely keep, awesome was the surprise the twins revealed I must say to announce that not one but two were born that day

On Thursday, March 16, 1972, SHANE LAMONT RIGGINS along with his brother Shawn Lamar, surprised their parents, Jennese Kee and the late Wallace (Judge) Riggins. SHANE kept the secret hidden by sharing the same heartbeat with his little brother Shawn for 9 months.

Shane attended the Columbus City Schools, including Cedarwood and Koebel elementary, Southmoor Middle School, and he graduated from Independence High School.

A Life of Faithful Servitude

As a young child SHANE loved being in the presence of the Lord. He attended services at God’s House of Prayer with his paternal grandmother and Greater 12th Avenue Baptist Church with his maternal grandmother where his uncle, Rev. Cleophus Kee formally served as Pastor. SHANE confessed Christ at the age of 8 and connected with the Mt. Ararat Baptist Church. He was active in the children’s choir, Boy’s Scouts and most of all, he loved praying and learning bible verses.

Later, he and Shawn served respectively as National Superintendents of the Sunday School department and were members of the choir while attending Greater Grace Temple AOH. Subsequently, he was led to work in ministry at Metropolitan Baptist Church, now New Faith Baptist Church of Christ, under the leadership of his cousin, Rev. Dr. Jefferey P. Kee. At New Faith, he served as a Sunday school teacher, taught Bible study; was a member of the ministerial team, served as director of the drama ministry, and he was instrumental in developing the “955 in Gospel” ministry for youth and young adults.

As an employee of Columbus City Center Mall, Central Benefits, and Nationwide Insurance respectively, SHANE also extended personal time and talent for many years as a mentor with the Amenci Program.

Twinsational Love

Shane and Shawn were virtually inseparable. They even shared one another’s pain. They tricked teachers, bosses, co-workers, friends, and even family. Not even the city of Columbus could tell them apart, always mixing one twins information up with the other! When asked if they were twins, they were quick to respond, “No we’re first cousins.”

The two enjoyed every moment of their journey called, “twinship”. For years, the twins expanded their friendship in Twinsburg, Ohio at the Twin Days Festival by connecting with other twins. This expansion led to many opportunities for the twins such as featured articles in the Columbus Dispatch, New Yorker magazine, and a couple books dedicated to photography. The symmetry of their looks landed them on display in a New York studio and in a documentary video at the Cannes Film Festival.

The Love of His Life

One Saturday at a fashion show Shane pulled the ponytail of a beautiful young girl by the name of Alice Mitchell, and in return, she hit him. There was no doubt that it was love at first sight. On Saturday, May 8, 1993, Shane and Alice sealed their love in holy matrimony and demonstrated that what they shared was much more than a childhood crush.

Through their own commitment of love to one another, Shane and Alice shared their experiences of marriage and ministry by offering marriage counseling to couples. To this union Alice welcomed Shane’s daughter Keiairra Morris and in 1995 they welcomed a son, Joshua Shane Riggins. In 2005, they opened their hearts and home by adopting four of Shane’s cousins shortly after the loss of their mother.

The Triumphant Departure

On Friday, September 16, 2016 SHANE left his earthly body and is now resting in the arms of our God for everything he was commanded to do he completed with excellence and fervor!
