Sidney Wayne Hardgrow Sr., age 69, passed away on January 14, 2025 in Mansfield, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Aubrey and Fredonia Hardgrow, as well as his siblings Sandra Akens, Vincent Hardgrow, and Joseph Akens.
Sidney is survived by his cherished siblings, Tina Hardgrow (Tricia Rossi) and Andrew Akens; his devoted son, Sidney Wayne Hardgrow Jr. (Mindi); and his treasured grandchildren, Sidney Wayne Hardgrow III (Arabella), Nathan Hardgrow, and Vanessa Hardgrow. He also leaves behind a loving family of nieces and nephews—Christina (Joshua) Pope, Fredonia (Shala) Crawford, Maria (Josh) Zickfoose, Katia Akens, Michelle Akens, and Nicole Akens—as well as a host of great-nieces and nephews who adored him.
Sidney found his greatest joy in spending time with his family. Whether it was taking his nieces and nephews to the movies or sharing a meal with his grandchildren, he valued every moment with those he loved. He was an avid chess player who spent many afternoons at the library engaging in friendly competition with friends. A true sports enthusiast, Sidney was a dedicated fan of the Cleveland Browns, always cheering them on with unwavering loyalty.
A proud veteran, Sidney served honorably in the U.S. Army, achieving the rank of Sergeant First Class. Following his military service, he continued his commitment to leadership and discipline as a Captain at Richland Correctional Institution. Sidney was also a proud graduate of The Ohio State University, a testament to his dedication to education and personal growth.
Sidney’s warmth, wisdom, and unwavering love for his family and friends will be deeply missed. His legacy of kindness, integrity, and devotion will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
