With heavy hearts but joyous spirits, we celebrate the life of Steven Eugene Arnold Sr., affectionately known as Steve or "Nature," who ascended to eternal glory on January 6, 2025, at the Ohio State James Center. Born in Columbus, Ohio, on August 26, 1952, to the cherished union of James Arnold Sr. and Asilene Arnold, Steve graced this world with a vibrant personality and boundless love for his family and friends.
Steve dedicated 27 years to the City of Columbus Division of Refuse Collection, retiring in December 2011. His legacy as a devoted sanitation worker reflects his commitment to his community and unwavering work ethic. Known for his infectious smile and hearty laughter, Steve had a remarkable knack for preserving precious family memories, amassing every family picture imaginable—a true archive of love.
A passionate music lover, Steve embraced all genres, often bringing joy and rhythm to any gathering. He was a vibrant presence on the dance floor, renowned for his "SPLIT" moves and spontaneous dance partnerships that left everyone in awe. As a remarkable athlete, he also shone on the football field and showcased his explosive speed.
Steve was a loving father, a true role model, and a steadfast hero to his children: daughter Stekesha Washington and sons Steven Jr. (Dee-Dee), Antonio, and Christopher (Samantha) Arnold. He leaves behind cherished memories with his sister, Gloria "Nellie" (Charles) Hoover; brothers John (Tammie) and Ivan Arnold; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, in-laws, and close friends whose lives were touched by his warmth and kindness.
Preceded in death by his beloved wife, Gwen Arnold; father, James Arnold Sr.; mother, Asilene Arnold; siblings William "Billy" (Maxine) Arnold, Aene (Bobby) Brown, and James Arnold Jr.; and nieces Tracey Brown and Tina (Larry) Washington, Steve's spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
As we come together to honor Steve's life, let us remember him with smiles, stories, and the joyous memories he created. His legacy of love, laughter, and compassion will forever resonate within our hearts. Rest in peace, Steve—your dance continues in our hearts.
