Theodore Fitzgerald Braithwaite

Theodore’s Life Journey

Theodore Fitzgerald Braithwaite, affectionately known as Teddy, was born on March 10th, 1934 in New York Hospital to Whitfield and Pearl Braithwaite. He was the oldest of all his siblings.

Theodore graduated from New York public schools and later joined the United States Air Force serving during the Korean war. He was employed at Bedford Hills correctional facility in Bedford Hill, NY.

He was a black belt in Martial Arts, and also a skilled boxer winning several championships.

Theodore Fitzgerald Braithwaite was an active member of the Lewis Hayden No. 69 – Prince Hall Grande Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of the State of New York.

Theodore was loved by all in his community, and always willing to lend a helping hand. He was a clever thinker with his words and would be sure to let you know how he felt with love.

Theodore relocated to Columbus, Ohio in 2013 to be closer to family, whom he loved dearly. He joined the Faith Tabernacle church family where he loved to attend services with his sister Connie and brother-in-law Elijah.

Strongly holding into the New Year, Theodore departed this life January 1, 2023 at the Oakleaf and The Grove assisted living facility. He was preceded in death by his parents Whitfield and Pearl, sisters Virginia (Big Ma) Smith, Audrey Johnson, and Sylvia Braithwaite, brothers Donald Bannerman, James Bannerman Sr., and Allistair Braithwaite.

Theodore leaves to cherish his memories, sister Connie (Elijah) Graves, stepdaughters Deanna (Peaches) Harrison, Cynthia (Bo) Harrison. Step grandson Jarrel (JJ) and 3 step great-grand children. Great-Niece and Helping Hand Kimberly (Eugene) Shepherd, a host of nieces, nephews, and loving family and friends from New York to Ohio.

Interment at Evergreen Burial Park.
