Theodore “Teddy” Poindexter was born to the late Prince and Alvena Poindexter on February 21, 1945, in Columbus, Ohio. He is the second to youngest of 10 children. Teddy departed this earthly life in his home, peacefully on Sunday, February 23, 2025. He was 80 years of age.
Proceeded in death by his father, Prince Poindexter Sr., loving mother, Alvena Poindexter; brothers, Earl, Don Benito, Cecil and Prince Poindexter Jr.; Sisters, Joan Spencer, Katherine, China and Earline Poindexter; sister-in-law, Beverly Poindexter. Special cousin, Robert Martin; nephews, Edward Poindexter Jr, Prince Poindexter III and Earl Spencer Jr.; loving niece, Kim Jackson; grandson, Lugene Abrams.
Teddy was educated in Columbus Public School system where he attended Garfield Elementary, Champion Middle School and East High School. He was employed with Western Electric, City of Columbus and Columbus Metropolitan Library.
Amongst his many talents, Teddy had a passion for cooking, fishing, drawing & story telling. He was well known for his delicious, homemade potato salad that was loved by so many. His ability to free hand a drawing would make anyone believe he was a true artist. His love for fishing and how he showed his expertise to loved ones, was his way of embracing God’s creation. Lastly, Teddy managed to visually depict his childhood stories making you feel as though you were right there in the moment.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Denise Poindexter; daughters, Tanika (Anthony) Hawkins, Shayla (Isaiah) Bond and Erin Lay; sons, Troy (Doreen) Capers and Brandon (Danielle) Byrd; grandchildren; Ariyana, Aniyah, Alexis and Anthony (Lacey) Hawkins Jr.; Gabrielle, Ethan Theodore, Guryon and Isaiah Bond II; Teia, Andre, Angela, Dyonne, Jamila and Troy Capers II; Logan Lay. A Host of great grandchildren; brother, Edward Poindexter Sr., brothers-in-law; George (Arlinda) Taylor Jr. and Charles (Deborah) Roddy Jr.; sisters-in-law; Felicia (Michael) Harrison and Linda (Jeffrey) Bennett. Special niece and nephew Lesa and Dominic Poindexter. A host of nieces, nephews and beloved relatives and friends.
