Tommie Vance

Tommie C. (Evans) Vance born May 10, 1929 to Gladys O. (Calhoun) Evans and Thomas Jefferson Evans in Martins Ferry, OH. She was the fourth and youngest daughter to their union. They moved to McDowell County in 1941.

Tommie and her sisters attended and graduated from Excelsior High School. She attended beautician school and graduated and moved to Detroit, MI. There she set up shop and attended to the needs of the black clientele in Detroit, MI. She later decided to return to Charleston, WV in 1955 where she opened up shops. She joined Metropolitan Baptist Church, giving her life to Christ. Her client Louise Vance decided she’d be a good match for her oldest son, Reuben C. Vance. They met and fell in love and were married on December 7, 1957. From their union a daughter, Rubye Tamra Vance was born on July 17, 1959.

Tommie is preceded in death by her parents, Gladys O. (Calhoun) Evans and Thomas Jefferson

Tommie is survived by her daughter, Rubye Tamra Vance; granddaughter, Shania Vance; great granddaughter, Naomi; and a host of other family and friends.

Visitation 10:00 AM and Funeral Service 11:00 AM Thursday, June 25, 2020 at MARLAN J. GARY FUNERAL HOME, THE CHAPEL OF PEACE EAST, 5456 E. Livingston Ave.

Interment at Evergreen Burial Park.
