Vera Crews-Walker

Vera Frances Crews-Walker is the 3rdth child of 5 children born to Lolita Joyce and Robert Kent Crews Jr. She was born on June 29th, 1960 in Huntington, West Virginia.

Known as “V” to all her friends and family, she spent her years grooming many different talents.

In her early days she spent her time as a welder, and it was this type of work that had her fascinated with how things worked and how they were put together. It was this passion that led her to a career in IT. She worked for a small firm at the Vern Riffe center and later went on to a career at the Ohio Treasurer’s Office where she spent 30 plus years and retired as a Systems Administrator. Throughout these years of positions, she met her long-time friend and husband Walter. They were married for over 37 years and together as a couple for 40 years.

Vera spent her free time sewing, being outdoors, and caring for others when they could not care for themselves. She truly loved people and could be seen sewing together pants for her father-in-law or making her daughter’s Halloween outfits for parties. She lived with constant pain every day, but she never let that get in the way. Most people never knew the pain she suffered because she still smiled as bright as the sun to everyone she came across.

Vera left this earthly realm to be with her family and God on Monday, September 19th, 2022 in the comfort of her home with her husband and her beloved pets, Mini, Loki, and Stink the cat.

Vera is preceded in death by her father, Robert K. Crews Jr.; mother, Lolita J. Crews; brother, Robert K Crews, III; niece, Jessica S. Crews; and mother-in-law, Bonnie D. Chatman.

Vera leaves to cherish all her memories her partner and husband of over 40 years, Walter Walker; daughters, Allysa Crews and Ashley Weatherspoon; granddaughter, Nova Jane Claypool; siblings Ronald (Beverly) Crews, Sr. Richard Crews, Sr., and Helen Cooper; sisters-in-law, Lisa M. (Robert) Cumberlander-Moseley and Wendy Cumberlander-Jones; brother-in-law, Bruce H. Cumberlander; and a host of nieces, nephews, additional relatives, and friends.

Vera possessed a beautiful, infectious smile that made your day as well as a gracious, and loving spirit. She will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.
