Vinne O’Letha Love

Vinne O’letha Young was born on August 23, 1942 in Spartanburg, South Carolina to Willie James and Edna Mae Young. She was raised by her loving grandparents, Sally Davis Moore and B.B. Moore. Letha attended Lincoln High School and Friendship College, where she was a cheerleader and member of the basketball team and sang in the choir. She was a proud graduate of HBCU Benedict College in Columbia, where she became active in the civil rights movement.

Sister Young accepted Christ as her Savior with Hardy Chapel Baptist Church, which was located right next door to her childhood home.

Letha taught elementary children at Spartanburg City Schools before moving her daughters Stephanie and Melissa to Columbus, Ohio to be closer to other family members. Following Stephanie’s death, she married and had two more children Ebone and Julian and gained a stepson, Michael. In Columbus, she went on to work for the state of Ohio, and retired from both Anthem and Chase Bank.

Letha was an avid sports fan and master card player. She enjoyed spending time with special friends, including Christi Smith, Miriam Chever and Frances Eiland. She loved to travel, especially to Las Vegas where she visited her paternal relatives, including Beatrice, Marian, Rochelle and Celia.

Letha Love departed this life on July 10, 2016. She was preceded by her grandparents, mother and father, daughter Stephanie, Sister Celia Mae, Brother Martin, dear friend Jacci Chandler. Left to cherish her memory are her children, sister Angela, grandchildren Kayden and Kylar, special niece Monicia and other nieces , nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation 11:00am and Funeral 12:00noon Tuesday July 19, 2016 at MARLAN J. GARY FUNERAL HOME, THE CHAPEL OF PEACE 2500 Cleveland Ave.
