Wayne “Ronnie” Hampton was born to Grady Hampton and Gertrude Hampton on May 21, 1947. Ronnie was one of their younger siblings and enjoyed playing football as a youth with his brothers. He worked for 13 years with the City of Columbus.
Ronnie was a huge fan of NFL football, with his favorite team being the Minnesota Vikings. Ronnie was a long-time supporter of the Vikings, dating back to the days of their legendary quarterback, 'Scramblin' Fran Tarkenton, about whom he'd often reminisce. He had a nearly uncanny ability to memorize team standings and player stats, long before the days being able to look it up on the internet.
Ronnie was an avid lover of music, especially 70's and 80's R&B. Some of his favorite songs were "If you don't know me by now" by Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes and "If you think you're lonely now" by Bobby Womack. He'd spend hours enjoying classic jams like those on his favorite radio station, WVKO.
Ronnie enjoyed classic western movies and TV shows, which he'd fondly refer to as "shoot-em-ups". His favorite shows were Bonanza and Gunsmoke, and he loved nearly every John Wayne movie.
Ronnie also really enjoyed bowling, especially at (the former) Amos Lanes. He was known to spend a great deal of time there for both league and open bowling, as well as socializing (especially with the ladies).
When not there, Ronnie could have often been found at one of his favorite eateries, such Wendy's, Captain D's, or Tee Jaye's.
Ronnie was known to be social, flirtatious at times, humorous, kind, giving, and loyal. To know him was to love him. Even during times of disagreement, his heart was always in the right place. May he rest in peace and his spirit live on in our memories.
Ronnie was preceded in death by parents, Grady Hampton and Gertrude; siblings, Jerry, Geraldine, Connie, and Jeanette.
He is survived by his siblings, Gerald and Delores. Also, left to cherish his memory is a host of other family and friends.
