William P. Holmes, age 69, passed away peacefully Monday, February 24, 2025, at The James Cancer Hospital. William was born November 17, 1955, in Portsmouth, OH, to the late Steve and Mary (Gaskins) Holmes.
William attended Hiram College where he played football. He was a graduate of Notre Dame High School class of 1974, where he played football and basketball. He retired from DuPont Research Institute and Goodyear Atomic Corporation.
He was a member of Pleasant Green Baptist Church Portsmouth, OH, and God called him to preach throughout southern, eastern, western and central Ohio. William was devoted to God, his family and friends. He loved listening to gospel, jazz, bicycling, The OSU Buckeyes and Cleveland Browns.
In 2012 William relocated to Canal Winchester where he married Lorrie, they enjoyed traveling together and seeing new places.
A devoted grandparent, William, found immense joy in spending time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed attending their football games, teaching them about animals and taking them on nature walks. As well as attending grandparents’ day at the children’s school.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved grandmothers, Pearlie Jane Holmes and Irene Gaskins; grandfathers, Samuel Holmes and Charles Gaskins; brother, Stephen Holmes; sisters Gwendolyn Sorrell, Judith Holmes; and great- niece, Emily Jane Holmes.
William leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Lorrie Holmes; daughters, Jessika Ashley Holmes (Westerville, OH), Jacqueline Ann Holmes fiancé Matthew Bowman (Chillicothe, OH); granddaughter, Oakley Holmes (Chillicothe, OH); son, William Patrick Holmes II (Williamsport, OH); stepchildren, Danielle Bailey, Brandon (Inna) Campbell, Tanya (Fiancé James Meek) Campbell; 8 step grandchildren; sisters, Mary (Robbie) Holmes (Portsmouth, OH), Sabrania Holmes (Frederick, CO); brothers, Michael (Veun) Holmes (Philomath OR), and Gregory Holmes (Portsmouth, OH); numerous nieces, great nieces, nephews, great nephews, and many close friends.
